This story idea is from mbrookieeee12. Thank you and I hope you like it.
Story:
It was a typical morning shift at the 14th precinct. The buzz of officers preparing for their day echoed in the bullpen. Tim Bradford stood by his desk, sipping his coffee, his eyes scanning the paperwork in front of him, but his mind was a little distracted.
Lucy Chen walked past, her voice low as she greeted a few of the other officers. Tim's eyes followed her, a proud smile tugging at his lips. They'd been dating for about six months now, and while Tim had his usual gruff demeanor, around Lucy, he was... different. Softer. More patient.
Then, a new voice cut through the noise of the precinct—a voice Tim didn't recognize.
"Hey, Officer Chen," the voice said, smooth and confident. Tim looked up from his coffee, his eyes narrowing slightly.
Lucy turned, offering a smile. "Oh, hey, Officer Shaw," she replied warmly. "How's the first week treating you?"
Shaw was tall, dark-haired, with a jawline that could cut glass. He had the kind of confidence that bordered on cocky, and Tim immediately didn't like him. It wasn't that he had a personal problem with the guy—he just didn't trust anyone who looked at Lucy the way Shaw was looking at her now. With that look.
"I'm adjusting," Shaw said, giving her a grin that seemed to last just a little too long. He leaned a little closer than necessary, his voice dropping an octave. "I gotta say, it's hard to focus on the paperwork with someone like you around."
Lucy laughed, but Tim's smile faded. He didn't even realize he'd put his cup down until he heard the clink of it on the desk. He had been aware of his feelings for Lucy long before they'd become a couple, but this? This felt... different. Shaw had a way of looking at Lucy like he was interested, and Tim didn't like it one bit.
Lucy tilted her head, not entirely uncomfortable, but not entirely amused either. "Thanks, but I'm just trying to get through my shift."
"I'm sure you could do a lot more than just get through it," Shaw said, the words too suggestive for Tim's taste.
Tim stood up from his desk, walking over casually, but there was an edge to his movement, a sense of purpose in the way he approached. His hands were in his pockets, but his posture was straight, and his jaw was tight.
"Everything okay over here?" Tim's voice was smooth, but there was an undercurrent of something else—something sharp. He wasn't sure if it was his usual protective instinct or something deeper, but either way, it was definitely there.
Lucy glanced at Tim, then back at Shaw. "Yeah, just talking shop."
Shaw chuckled, stepping back just enough to acknowledge Tim's presence, though he didn't seem intimidated in the slightest. "Right. I was just telling Officer Chen here that I'd love to grab a coffee sometime, maybe get to know the force a little better. What do you think, Officer Chen?" He shot her a look, the kind that implied they'd be getting much more than coffee.
Tim's expression remained neutral, but his hands clenched in his pockets. Lucy's eyes widened, but she quickly recovered, shaking her head with a smile that was all professional.
"Thanks, but I'm actually seeing someone," she said, the smile warm but firm.
Tim's eyes met hers, a flicker of pride mixed with something a little possessive, though he quickly masked it with a calm demeanor. He didn't want to come off as the jealous boyfriend, but something about Shaw's smile just didn't sit right.
"Oh," Shaw said, a bit of surprise in his voice. He recovered quickly, though, offering a shrug. "Well, no harm in asking, right?"
"None at all," Lucy said, her tone leaving little room for debate. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got paperwork to finish."
Shaw didn't push it further. He gave a quick nod, still smiling, before turning and walking back to his desk.
Tim stood there for a moment longer, watching Shaw retreat before he turned back to Lucy, his arms crossed. His expression softened, but there was still a slight tension in his jaw.
"Is it me, or was that guy way too comfortable?" Tim asked, his voice low.
Lucy raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by Tim's tone. "You jealous, Bradford?"
Tim's lips curled into a small, half-smile. "I'm not jealous," he said, though the words felt a little defensive even to him. "Just don't like the way he was looking at you."
Lucy stepped closer, her hand brushing against his arm as she spoke in a quieter tone. "I know. But I'm not interested, Tim."
"I know you're not," Tim replied quickly. His eyes softened as he looked down at her. "But that doesn't mean I have to like the guy trying to flirt with my girlfriend."
Lucy laughed, the sound light and full of affection. "You're cute when you're possessive."
Tim's eyes darkened slightly, but it wasn't anger—more like a hint of something softer. "I just don't want anyone getting the wrong idea. About you. About us."
Lucy reached up to touch his cheek, her fingers grazing his stubble. "You're not going to lose me to some rookie, Tim. I'm right here."
Tim exhaled, the tension in his shoulders easing. "Good," he muttered, feeling a little foolish for letting his emotions get the best of him.
Lucy smiled, standing on her tiptoes to kiss him quickly on the cheek. "Now, if you're done with your little moment of jealousy, we've got a shift to finish."
Tim rolled his eyes, but there was warmth behind his gaze. "Yeah, yeah. Let's just get through this without any more distractions."
"Agreed." Lucy grinned and turned back to her desk, but not before giving him one last lingering look, just to remind him that, despite the rookie's attempt, she was his.
As Tim watched her walk away, he couldn't help but feel a little smug. No matter how many rookies showed up, no one would ever make her smile the way he could
