Story:
It was a hectic morning in the Bradford household. Tim stood in the kitchen, his LAPD uniform already neatly pressed, as he watched six-year-old Chelsea dart back and forth from the living room to the hallway. Her brown curls were a mess, her mismatched socks slid against the wooden floor, and she was singing a song she'd made up on the spot about dinosaurs and pancakes.
"Chels, slow down," Tim said firmly, though not unkindly, as he stirred his coffee.
"I can't, Daddy!" she giggled, spinning in a circle and nearly tripping over her pink backpack. "I'm a tornado! Wooosh!"
Tim pinched the bridge of his nose, glancing at the clock. It was 7:45, and they were running behind. Again. Lucy walked in from the bedroom, her hair pulled into a tight ponytail, fully dressed in her uniform. She shot Tim a knowing look.
"She didn't take her meds this morning, did she?" Lucy asked, crossing her arms as Chelsea bolted past her, pretending to be an airplane.
"I reminded her, but she got distracted. I didn't want to push it, but..." Tim gestured toward the chaos unfolding before them.
Chelsea zoomed back into the kitchen, stopping just long enough to grab her stuffed bunny off the counter. "Look, Bun-Bun can fly too!" she exclaimed, tossing the bunny into the air and watching it land unceremoniously on the floor.
"Alright, tornado," Tim said, crouching down to her level and catching her by the shoulders as she twirled. "We need to talk."
Chelsea wiggled in his grip, her little body buzzing with energy. "What, Daddy? I'm busy!"
Tim's blue eyes softened, though his tone was serious. "Did you forget to take your medicine this morning?"
Chelsea stilled for a moment, her lips forming a small pout. "Maybe..." she admitted, looking down at her bunny. "I don't like it. It makes me feel weird and... quiet."
"Chels," Tim said gently, brushing a curl out of her face. "The medicine helps you focus. It helps you stay calm so you can have a good day at school. Remember?"
"But I like being a tornado!" she protested, her voice rising. "And I don't wanna be quiet! I wanna run and play and—"
"Hey, hey," Tim interrupted, pulling her into a hug. "You can still run and play, bug. The medicine doesn't take that away. It just helps your brain slow down a little so you don't feel so overwhelmed. That's all."
Chelsea huffed but leaned into his chest, her small arms wrapping around his neck. "I'll take it tomorrow, Daddy. I promise."
Tim kissed the top of her head. "Okay. But we're going to talk more about this tonight."

After School
————————————————————
When Tim and Lucy got home from their shift, they were greeted by a scene that made Tim's heart sink. Chelsea was curled up on the couch, her knees pulled to her chest, her stuffed bunny clutched tightly in her arms. Her face was blotchy and red, tears streaking her cheeks.
"Chels?" Tim called softly, kneeling in front of her.
She looked up at him, her blue eyes filled with hurt. "Daddy..."
"What happened, bug?" Tim asked, his voice gentle but laced with concern.
Chelsea sniffled, her voice barely above a whisper. "The kids at school were mean to me."
Lucy sat down beside her, pulling her into a hug. "What did they say, sweetie?"
"They said I'm annoying," Chelsea murmured, her words tumbling out in broken sobs. "They said I'm too loud and I can't sit still and that nobody wants to be my friend because I'm weird."
Tim's jaw clenched, anger bubbling beneath his calm exterior. He took a deep breath, forcing himself to stay composed for Chelsea's sake. "Who said that?" he asked, his voice steady but firm. "Do you remember their names?"
Chelsea hesitated, then nodded. "M-Mia and Tyler. And some other kids laughed too."
Lucy rubbed Chelsea's back, her own eyes brimming with tears. "Oh, baby, I'm so sorry. That must have been so hard for you."
Chelsea nodded, her tears falling harder now. "I tried to be good, Mommy. I really did! But my legs wouldn't stop moving, and I kept talking too much, and..." Her voice broke as she buried her face in Lucy's shoulder.
Tim couldn't take it anymore. He scooped Chelsea up into his arms, cradling her like she was still his little baby. "Listen to me, bug," he said, his voice low and soothing. "You are not annoying, and you are not weird. You're amazing, okay? You're smart, and funny, and so full of life. Don't let anyone make you feel like you're less than that."
Chelsea clung to him, her sobs quieting slightly. "But they don't like me, Daddy. They said nobody wants to play with me."
Tim's heart broke into a thousand pieces. "Then those kids don't know what they're missing," he said firmly. "Because you're the best, Chels. And if anyone ever makes you feel like you're not, you come to me, and I'll set them straight. Got it?"
Chelsea sniffled, her little hand clutching his shirt. "You promise?"
"I promise," Tim said, pressing a kiss to her temple. "I'll always protect you, bug. Always."

Later That Night
————————————————————
After Chelsea was tucked into bed, Tim and Lucy sat together in the living room, exhaustion etched into their faces.
"We need to talk to her teacher," Lucy said, breaking the silence. "This bullying can't keep happening."
"I'll handle it," Tim said, his tone sharp. "And we need to come up with a better system to make sure she takes her meds. Maybe a chart or something."
Lucy nodded. "She's lucky to have you, you know."
Tim shook his head. "No, Luce. I'm the lucky one."
As they sat there, the sound of Chelsea's soft breathing coming from her room, they knew they would do whatever it took to help their little girl thrive.
