Heeseung set my things down in his room and turned to face me. He opened his mouth to say something, but I spoke first. "I can really sleep on the sofa, it's no problem."
He looked at me for a few seconds, the sound of the storm raging outside filling the silence. Then, with an intense gaze, he said, "And what if our manager comes in for some reason and the first thing he sees is a girl on the sofa?"
I broke eye contact and looked away, feeling guilty. "Sorry for the trouble."
Heeseung shook his head. "No, don't apologize. We invited you here! I just want what's best for you and for you to feel comfortable."
I looked back at him. "Do you have an extra mattress?"
He seemed puzzled by my sudden question. "I can just sleep on a mattress on the floor in your room. You stay in your bed, then I'm happy, and I'm not on the sofa, so you're happy. Deal?"
He scratched his head, thinking it over. "You're quite stubborn, aren't you?" he said with a smile. "But if that's what you want..."
"Perfect!" I said, beaming at him. My smile made him smile too, and he shook his head in amusement.
He left the room and returned a short while later with bedding for me. After we both got ready for bed, he settled into his bed, and I made myself comfortable on the mattress on the floor. The light went out, and I heard Heeseung say, "Goodnight, Chloe. Sweet dreams."
"Thank you, Heeseung. You too," I replied.
I snuggled into the blanket, a grin spreading across my face. The storm outside made the atmosphere feel even cozier, and the scent in the room was calming. It smelled like Heeseung.
I wasn't sure how many minutes passed before I heard Heeseung's voice softly calling out to me, "Chloe, are you asleep?"
I turned slightly on the mattress, my curiosity piqued. "Not yet. What's up?"
There was a brief pause before he responded. "I just wanted to make sure you're comfortable. I know this isn't the best situation."
"It's more than okay, Heeseung," I reassured him. "I'm really grateful for your help. You've all been so kind."
He sighed softly. "We're happy to help. It's just... I didn't expect this storm to turn everything upside down."
"Yeah, it's pretty wild," I agreed. "But it's also kind of nice to be here, with you guys. It feels... safe."
"I'm glad to hear that," he said quietly. "If you need anything, just let me know, okay?"
"Okay, thank you, Heeseung."
Another silence filled the room, the only sound being the rain and occasional thunder outside. I closed my eyes, trying to relax, but my mind was still racing with the events of the day.
Just as I was about to drift off, Heeseung spoke again. "Chloe, can I ask you something?"
"Of course," I replied, curious.
"Are you... nervous about being here? With us, I mean," he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
I thought for a moment before answering. "A little, yeah. I mean, you're all so talented and famous, and I'm just... me. But everyone has been so welcoming, it's hard to feel too nervous."
"You don't have to feel that way," Heeseung said softly. "We're just people too, you know? We're happy to have you here."
"Thank you, Heeseung. That means a lot," I said sincerely.
As the silence settled back in, the sounds of the storm outside seemed to grow louder. The wind howled, rain pounded against the windows, and occasional thunder rumbled in the distance. The rhythmic tapping of the rain was oddly soothing, like nature's lullaby trying to calm my restless mind.
I listened to the soft rustling of Heeseung shifting in his bed, trying to find a comfortable position. The faint creak of the mattress springs, the rustle of blankets being adjusted, and his quiet sighs filled the room. Each sound was a reminder that I wasn't alone, that someone was nearby.
Slowly, I felt my body relax, the tension of the day melting away. My thoughts began to blur, drifting between reality and the edge of dreams. The last thing I remembered was the sound of Heeseung's soft breathing and the gentle patter of rain against the window.
Suddenly, a loud clap of thunder jolted me awake, my eyes snapping wide open. I whispered to myself, "That was so loud..."
"You're awake again?" came a voice from the direction of Heeseung's bed.
