30: Unspoken Concerns

As I entered Heeseung's room, I saw him intently focused on his computer screen, playing League of Legends. To be honest, I wasn't too surprised. He seemed so absorbed in the game that he didn't even notice my presence. Deciding not to interrupt, I quietly settled on the mattress and watched him from there.

His team won the round, and he took off his headset, but instead of looking pleased, he appeared quite subdued. He glanced at his phone and sighed heavily. That was when I decided it was time to say something.

"Hey, Heeseung," I said in a cheerful tone, hoping my smile might lift his spirits.

He flinched slightly and then slowly turned toward me. His face was a mix of surprise and confusion. "When did you get here?" he asked, his voice tinged with a hint of exhaustion.

"I think I've been watching for the last ten minutes or so. Congratulations on the win! You're really good," I replied, still maintaining a warm smile.

He thanked me with a nod, but his expression didn't change. The atmosphere felt oddly tense, and my upbeat demeanor didn't seem to affect him.

I tried to establish eye contact, but he seemed lost in thought. "Heeseung?" I asked gently, with a hint of concern.

His gaze met mine briefly before he looked away. "Is... um, everything okay?" I asked hesitantly.

He met my eyes again for a fleeting moment before his gaze shifted elsewhere. He simply shrugged his shoulders, his silence louder than words.

"Is something wrong that you want to talk about? Or do you need some time alone? Should I go?" I asked, not wanting to pressure him but also feeling the need to address whatever was troubling him.

He finally looked at me and said, "It's okay. I'm probably just tired from the day. Let's get ready for bed."

I nodded as he turned off his computer. A nagging thought crossed my mind: Had he been waiting for me so we could go to bed together? Why was I even thinking like this? He probably just wanted to continue gaming but didn't want to disturb me while he did so. He had seemed introspective and reserved since this morning, perhaps still affected by last night. I wanted to address it and clear the air as quickly as possible. I hated being in the dark, as misunderstandings often led to complications that could have been avoided with a bit of communication.

But was bedtime the right moment to bring it up?

As we both lay down, Heeseung turned off the light and said, "Good night. Sleep well."

"Thanks, you too, Heeseung," I replied, pausing before continuing. "If there's anything you need to talk about, you can always come to me, okay? I'm here for you, no matter what it is. I just wanted you to know that."

He responded in a soft voice, "Thank you, Chloe. I really appreciate that."

I tried to fall asleep, but it was impossible. I kept shifting positions, changing from one to another every few minutes, but nothing seemed to help. My mind refused to shut off, and I hated this feeling. It was uncontrollable and was literally robbing me of sleep. What was going on with Heeseung?

Suddenly, I heard Heeseung's voice from the darkness. "Seems like someone else can't sleep either."

"Hm?" I was momentarily confused.

"You keep moving around and seem a bit restless," he said.

Now the tables had turned. Just a short while ago, I was the one asking him questions, but now he was asking if everything was okay with me. I hesitated, unsure if I should bring up my concerns. What if I was overthinking things and he was simply tired, and I was keeping him awake by talking about it?

He spoke again, his voice gentle but firm. "What you said earlier goes both ways. I mean, about having an open ear for each other. If something's bothering you, you can always come to me."

I smiled gratefully in the dark, but hesitated. Should I bring it up?

"Heeseung?" I began cautiously.
