For the past six months, Heeseung and I had no contact at all. I could only follow his journey from a distance, but watching him and the other members hurt too much, so I avoided it as much as possible.
Right now, I was in Japan with my best friend. She had told me to dress nicely but comfortably because she had a surprise for me. After getting ready, we hopped on a bus and headed off.
As we drove through the city, I suddenly caught sight of the Tokyo Dome. My eyes widened in confusion as I turned to my best friend, who only grinned mischievously.
When we got off the bus, I noticed large crowds of people walking in the same direction. At first, I didn't think much of it, but then I saw the banners and merchandise. Enhypen.
No. What were we doing here?
I spun around to face my best friend, panic rising in my chest. She was still smiling as if she had done nothing shocking, waving two tickets in front of my face.
"Surprise! You like them, don't you?" she beamed.
I could only stare at her with wide eyes, unable to form words.
"Hey, did I surprise you so much that you're speechless?" she laughed, grabbing my arm. "Come on, let's go in!"
Thankfully, our seats were not right next to the stage. I wasn't sure if I could handle being that close.
As the concert progressed, I had to admit I felt happy and proud of them. Seeing all of them perform with such energy and passion was an incredible sight. But my heart ached every time Heeseung appeared on the big screen. He looked as amazing as ever, his voice captivating as always.
During a short break, when the members were talking to the fans, the camera began to scan the audience, capturing excited fans on the large screen.
I instinctively tried to make myself smaller, whispering in my head: Please, not here. Please, not here.
The camera zoomed in on a fan and I held my breath.
It wasn't me.
I sighed in relief—until I realized who it was. My best friend.
The next thing she did was something I never could have predicted.
She grabbed my arm and pulled me into the frame with her.
I froze. My face was now on the big screen for everyone to see.
My heart pounded in my chest as I saw the members glance at the screen. I couldn't tell their exact reactions, but I was sure of one thing.
They recognized me.
After a few seconds, the camera moved on to another fan, but my mind was still stuck on that moment. The rest of the concert became a blur. I tried to focus on the performances, but my thoughts kept wandering back to what had just happened.
Later that night, back at our hotel, my best friend was in the shower while I lay on the bed, absentmindedly scrolling through my phone. That was when I saw it.
A follow request on Instagram.
From Heeseung's private account.
My breath hitched.
What should I do?
Ignoring him wasn't an option. He knew I was there. He had seen me.
My fingers trembled as I hesitantly accepted his request.
Almost instantly, a message popped up.
"Hey, how did you like the concert?"
I took a deep breath before replying.
"It was good. Really good."
A pause. Then another message.
"How have you been?"
I hesitated. How honest should I be?
"I'm okay. Not great, but not terrible either. You?"
"Same."
There was a long silence after that. I stared at my screen, wondering if that would be the end of our conversation.
Then, another message came in.
"It was nice seeing you again."
My heart skipped a beat.
I wasn't sure how to respond. I had been the one to break things off. I had walked away because I was afraid. Afraid that our relationship would ruin his career. Afraid that the fans would find out and destroy everything he and the other members had worked so hard for.
Another message appeared.
"I have to be honest, Chloe. I miss you. So much. There isn't a single day where I don't think about you. You have no idea how much you mean to me. I've been trying to act like everything is fine, but it's not. Not since you left my life."
As I read his words, tears welled up in my eyes.
Because I felt the exact same way.
My fingers hovered over the keyboard, unsure of what to say. Before I could type a response, another message arrived.
"Do you think we could talk again? We don't have to go back to how things were right away, but maybe we could start over, little by little?"
My heart ached. Deep down, I had always wished for another chance. I had missed him more than I wanted to admit.
Without thinking too much, I pressed the call button.
The phone rang once. Twice.
Then, he picked up.

I decided to leave the ending somewhat open, but it seems like Chloe and Heeseung will grow closer again, don't you think?
