As I lay there in the dark, I hesitated before speaking. "Heeseung?" I asked cautiously.
After a moment of silence, his quiet presence seemed to encourage me to continue. "So... is everything okay between us?"
More silence followed, thickening the air around us. I pressed on, trying to articulate my feelings. "I might be overthinking things, but I just wanted to make sure. It feels like you've been... how should I put it, more distant? More introspective? I was wondering if it might be related to last night."
I had finally said it out loud. Now, the silence was even more palpable. I didn't want to pressure him, and maybe he was just searching for the right words.
"I..." he began, but then fell silent again.
"Sorry about yesterday. It's a bit embarrassing, especially... well, especially how close I got to you while you were asleep," he finally said.
I found him unexpectedly endearing at that moment, which made me chuckle softly. His reaction was a mix of confusion and curiosity. "Why are you laughing?" he asked.
"Sorry, it's not what you think. Don't take it the wrong way. I was just thinking, what if I'm overreacting and imagining things that aren't really there? I'm just glad we can talk openly about this," I reassured him, hoping to ease any lingering discomfort.
I heard him shift in his bed. "What are you doing?" I asked, my curiosity piqued.
"I just sat up because I couldn't sleep anyway. Do you want to talk or would you rather try to sleep?" he offered.
"I can't sleep either," I admitted, sitting up as well.
He turned on a small, dim light, casting a soft glow in the room. It was just enough to illuminate the space without being too harsh.
In the gentle light, Heeseung looked a bit disheveled. His hair was tousled and slightly messy, giving him a relaxed, yet endearing appearance. His face, free of makeup, was naturally handsome with its unassuming charm. The faint light accentuated his soft features—his eyes, though tired, still held a certain warmth. The overall effect was both calming and captivating.
I stared at him for a few seconds, my mind going blank in the quiet. Heeseung noticed my gaze and returned it, but said nothing. Was he waiting for me to say something, or was he just enjoying this shared, silent moment?
The intense eye contact felt almost trance-like, and I quickly broke it as I regained my senses. He seemed a bit flustered, his cheeks slightly flushed.
"So, how was the other apartment? You were with Jake, right?" he asked suddenly.
"Yes," I replied, chuckling a bit. "You can definitely tell Jake's room is his. He had a bunch of Lego sets, and he mentioned that some of them were built with the other members. Did you help with any of those?"
"Yeah," he answered briefly.
I nodded, continuing, "Oh, and he also mentioned that we could build something together sometime."
He just nodded in response, listening intently.
"And then we went to Jungwon's room. I almost ended up in his livestream, but thankfully, it all worked out..." I laughed lightly, trying to make light of what was actually a serious situation. "Afterward, Jake and I talked a bit more and..."
I hesitated for a moment, contemplating whether or not to bring up what the others had said about us. Should I mention it?
"And?" Heeseung prompted, his expression changing slightly as he became more interested.
I took a deep breath, trying to gauge the right moment to share my thoughts. "Well, the others did mention something about us," I began cautiously. "I'm not sure if it's something we need to address now, but it was a topic of conversation."
