Aleksander's POV:
"Hello. Who do we have here?" I said, my eyes scanning the room for Alina.
I knew she was here. I could sense her through the tether.
No answer except for the red haired guy. "Who are you talking to?"
"I think you know excactly who I'm talking to. Alina. Come out of your little hiding place." I say, and I send my annoyance through the tether.
"Alina? Alina isn't here." Nadia says, and I frown.
She could've done well in my army, but she chose to be a traitor and a liar.
"There's no point in lying. I know she is in here, and I'm letting you all get the easy way out of this. Just give me Alina." I threaten, and Nadia backs up from the bars.
I spot the tracker glaring at me from one of the cells in the corner. I walk over there slowly, eyeing everything around me, looking for Alina.
I use the shadows and darkness around me and morph it into a long, sharp blade. The tracker starts to back away, but I grab him before he could get away from my reach.
I bound his hands with shadows, making him wince from the cold. I hold the shadow blade against his neck.
"Come out now, or your little tracker will be dead." I threaten, anger rising in me.
The tracker's neck starts to bleed from me pressing on his bare skin. "Don't make me count, Alina."
"Face it. Alina isn't here. You're going to want to keep me alive though, because if you ever need tracking, you won't get it if I'm dead." Mal rasped, and I dropped him.
"Fine. Maybe not you, but I can easily destroy your little Lantsov prince with a snap of my fingers. I will let the darkness overtake him until there is nothing left of the Nikolai you know. The only thing that will remain is a volcra." I say, meaning every single word.
"No-" Nikolai moans. "I'm not worth it. Don't do it Alina."
"Oh, so she is here? Now you admit it." I curl my fingers and watch Nikolai scream from the pain. "Come out Alina, if you want to save your prince."
"NO- DON'T DO THIS ALINA- YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN DEFEAT HIM-" Nikolai yells, on the ground, the black veins taking over him.
A burst of light fills the room, blinding me for a moment, but there is Alina.
I uncurl my fists, letting Nikolai go for now. "Defeat me? Is that what you want to do?" I say coldly, not lifting my gaze from her.
"I made you a deal." She says angrily. "That if I took your hand, you would let my friends go."
I smirk, "I agreed to let your friends go in that moment, because I had them well in my grasp. I never said anything about capturing them again."
"What did you do to Nikolai?! Reverse it. Now." She demands, and I chuckle.
She looks so cute when she's bossy.
"Reverse it?" I laugh. "You can't reverse merzost."
Alina looks like she's about to charge me, but I call for my oprichniki, who come from behind her and grab her by the arms.
They put a cloth over her mouth and nose, and Alina's body turning limp. My heart wrenching seeing her like that.
Why, why did she have to come to dungeon? We could've avoided all this.
The Lantsov prince's groans snap me back into reality. Alina's friends stare at me with looks of anger and hatred, but most importantly, they fear me.
Yes. Let them see your power. Let them bow down to you.
"Don't let yourself be next." I threaten as I walk out of the dungeon, leaving them in darkness.
I spot Alina being carried back to our room, and I send shadows to cover her and the guards. I trail a bit behind.
As I walk, I keep my posture tall and regal, keeping my gaze cold and emotionless, like I do in public.
In public. Huh, I just realized how differently I act around Alina.
We reach our room after walking down several hallways and going up different sets of stairs. The guards stop at our door.
"I can take her from here." I say, and they hand her to me, and I carry her bridal style into our room.
I put her down on my bed after I dismiss the guards, and I push her hair back gently.
She looks so peaceful when she sleeps.
I press a soft kiss to Alina's forehead.
Don't worry Aleksander. She'll wake up in an hour or two. Try and get some work done.
I sigh and take my hand off Alina's cheek, and head over to my desk, where my nightly reports are waiting.
I shuffle through the pile of papers, half looking. It's all the same things. Movement with the Shu Han's army. Kerch slavers spotted. Criminals robbing banks in Ketterdam. Stuff about the other countries.
But something caught my eye. A word, specifically.
Drüskelle.
I shot up straight in my chair, reading every single word written on the page.
"Missing Grisha? Drüskelle spotted?" I felt anger rising in me. "How could this happen? We signed a treaty! It took less than a day!"
I slammed the papers on my desk and pressed my hand to my forehead. I couldn't do this anymore. The moment I thought I had a solution, I didn't.
On instinct, I turned to Alina to tell her, but she was still asleep. What was I going to do?
Tea. I want tea.
I rang for two cups of hot tea, one for me, and one for when Alina wakes up.
I considered going to the war room to strategize with Ivan, but I realized Ivan would be in his quarters, or with Fedyor.
It was getting late already, most people would be in the banya or sleeping already.
I should take a shower. Do something productive before Alina wakes up.
Sighing, I took off my kefta and grabbed my sleepwear.
Please Alina. Wake up soon. I need your help.
