Aleksander's POV:
"Give me the cloth." I said to Fedyor.
I pressed it to Alina's mouth, feeling guilty, and I released the Shadow's blinding her eyes.
The horses the traitors were planning on riding were being put back in the stable, but they were all still panicked.
"What should we do now, sir?" A guard asked me as he slowly put one of the traitors to the ground.
I noticed it was Genya.
Of course she would be part of this plan. I never should've let Alina and Genya reunite. I'm being to soft on her.
"Moi tsar?" The guard asked, and I turned my attention back to him.
"We'll bring them all back to the dungeon, but instead of keeping some of them in the same cells, put them all in different cells. No light this time. I'm not playing nice anymore." I said, trying to force down my anger.
My guards picked up the bodies, and I carried Alina, bridal style.
I would need her to wake up and return to the party, so hopefully that wouldn't be much of a problem. First, I need to calm her down.
We walked back into the dark halls of the Grand Palace, taking seperate and more isolated hallways to avoid other people from the party.
I'll just say she got a little drunk. I think as I make our way back to our bedroom, but to be honest, I'm a bit drunk.
I prop Alina up on the bed, then ring for the tea to wake her up.
The tea arrives within a few minutes, and I pour it slowly into her mouth.
Her lips are really soft.
I grab both of her hands as Alina starts to wake up, moving around.
"Mal, Nikolai, Genya, get out of here. Zoya, Harshaw, move! Tamar, Tolya, where did you go?" Alina says, rambling names.
"Alina." I say, and she suddenly stops moving. "Drink your tea."
Her eyes flutter open, which are filled with surprise, then anger.
"You drugged me again!" Alina says, and she tries to push me off of her.
"Alina, shh, quiet down. I did what I had to do." I say, trying not to be angry.
"What did you do to my friends?!?" Alina says, hate rising in her voice.
"Nothing yet. And if you don't cooperate, all of them will be dead before the sun rises." I threaten.
Alina stops and stares at me with fear. "What do you want me to do?" She says softly, avoiding my eyes.
"Do not mention anything about your little excursion. You will come back to the party with me, and stay by my side the rest of the night. You act like my bride, like a happy queen. Do you understand?" I say.
Alina gives a singular nod.
"Good girl." I say and plant a soft kiss.
Alina's POV:
As Aleksander walks me back to the party, I'm filled with fear and guilt.
What was he planning on doing to my friends?
He hooks his arm around mine and we walk in silence.
When he kissed my lips, I smelled alcohol.
"How much have you been drinking?" I ask him, but he doesn't answer.
When we walk in, a cheer arises and I notice how much the party has changed.
Most of the people here are drunk, and they don't even notice that we've been missing.
I see a bunch of our Grisha partying by a corner of desserts and drinks, I see a few nobles dancing, the guards looking bored, and a few Fjerdans. Most of the Shu Han ambassadors left.
Aleksander grabs a drink from a nearby table and drinks from it. Then he passes it to me.
"You want some?"
I take it, hoping to forget this horrible night. What was I going to do now? How was I supposed to get my friends out of here?
For the rest of the night, we drift around, and I watch Aleksander get increasingly more drunk.
"Aleks- stop. Why are you drinking so much?"
"Why are you drinking so little?" He says, his voice slurred. His breath reeks of alcohol. "It's our wedding night."
He then kisses me, wrapping his arms around my waist, and I kiss him back for just a moment before I push him away.
"Stop." I say firmly, "The night is over. Barely any people are left. We can leave now and stop with this facade or whatever this is."
"Okay Alina." Aleksander says, his voice slurred, his arms still wrapped around my waist.
I lead him out of the ballroom and back to our quarters, but once I close the doors, Aleksander starts kissing me again.
As much as I want this, now is not the right time. My head hurts, my estacy of being with Aleksander and my fear for my friends lives, morph into one giant ball of stress.
"Please stop Aleksander." I say, no energy behind my plea.
"You don't want me to stop. Your hands are still wrapped around me." He says, leading me to the bed.
He lays me down and gets on top of me, kissing my neck and drinking my skin. I felt him leave a hickey.
What am I doing? What am I feeling? Is this what it feels like to be wasted and drunk? I've never been this drunk before...
Get yourself together Alina. Get him off of you before it's too late.
But I want this?
Think about Mal. Think about Nikolai and the darkness slowly taking over him. Think about Genya and the scars on her face. All your other friends, locked up in a dungeon while you're about to have sex with the very person who locked them up.
"Get off." I say angrily, and Aleksander stops abruptly, unsure of what to do.
"What are you doing, Alina?" Aleksander says, his words slurred.
I get up from the bed, feeling a little dizzy.
I rummage through a few drawers until I find what I need.
"Alina?" Aleksander says again, "Milaya what are you doing?"
"Sit on the bed- Aleks." I say as I come back to sit next to him.
I hold out a cloth, the very same cloth Aleksander used to drug me and I put it on his mouth.
His eyes widen with surprise, then flutter shut. I push him up to the pillow and put the blanket over him.
My head was really hurting now, and I was starting to wish I didn't drink so much.
Then I fell into a restless sleep.
