Riya's POV

Time flew by so quickly; it's already been a month since I joined Up View. Everything here is wonderful—I love my work a lot. I'm part of an amazing team where I can learn so much, and everyone appreciates my contributions. My manager, Mr. Gupta, even mentioned that my performance has been remarkable and that he would like to recommend me for a full-time position after my internship period. In short, things have been fantastic at Up View. Paa, Bhai, Meenu, and Aryan were all thrilled about the possibility of full-time employment.

I even planned to buy something special for everyone with my first month's salary. But above all these positive feelings, there's still this unsettling sense, like the calm before a storm, that's been troubling me a lot.

I prayed to God that nothing bad should happen. With this thought, I entered my office building. I waved hi to Adalina and headed toward the lift to reach my floor. As I stepped onto my floor, everything seemed normal, but the atmosphere was thick and cold, sending a shiver down my spine.

I went to my desk, placed my stuff down, and opened my laptop to start working. However, my laptop was showing a blank screen. Thinking it might be out of battery, I plugged in the charger and waited for more than 15 minutes. After 20 minutes, I tried to work on my laptop again, but it still showed only a blank white screen. I felt both confused and scared, so I followed protocol and went to the IT department to inform the technician about my laptop. He told me I had to wait until his supervisor arrived. With no other choice, I waited outside his cabin and took out my mobile to call Mr. Gupta to inform him about the situation. Unfortunately, Mr. Gupta didn't answer my call.

I then informed my teammates about the issue, and they suggested I take my time. After two hours of waiting, the technician finally called me inside as his supervisor had arrived. I quickly explained the issue to the supervisor. He provided me with a new laptop and asked me to adjust to it for the time being.

I went back to my desk and started working with my new laptop. It was tough without my old one, but I managed to get by. I was deeply immersed in my work when I suddenly flinched at the sound of a cold voice from behind. Turning around, I saw Ms. Rupali Bose, the assistant to the CEO, standing there with her arms folded across her chest, giving me a look of utter disdain. Confused about why she was looking at me that way, I soon heard her say, "If you're done daydreaming, get up. The CEO wants to see you."

I nodded and got up from my seat, following Ms. Bose towards the lift. Just as I was about to step inside, she pushed me, causing me to almost lose my balance. I looked at her angrily and asked, "What kind of behaviour is this, Ms. Bose?"

She replied coldly, "I don't want to share the elevator with a woman like you." With that, the elevator doors closed, leaving me standing there, hurt and confused. I couldn't understand what I had done to deserve such treatment from Ms. Bose.

I waited for the elevator to return, but it didn't come. So, I decided to take the stairs to the CEO's office on the top floor, meaning I had to climb almost five floors. Without wasting any time, I started my ascent. With each floor, the unsettling feeling in my mind grew stronger, clouding my thoughts with all kinds of negative vibes. Soon, my chest began to ache, not from the physical exertion of climbing, but from the ominous feeling weighing on my heart.

Soon, I reached the CEO's office, panting a little from the climb. I decided to calm myself by breathing slowly, inhaling and exhaling until my breathing steadied. As I started walking, Ms. Bose stopped me, saying, "Who do you think you are, the President of the country, to walk into the CEO's room as you please?"

I was about to speak when Ms. Bose cut me off, saying, "Stand where you are, woman. I will inform Sir first." I nodded and stood there, feeling the weight of her disgusted look. After a few minutes, Ms. Bose came out and told me to go in, but before I could take another step, she stopped me and asked me to raise my hands in the air. Without further argument, I did as she asked, and she started to check my pockets and cuffs, clearly performing a security check.

After checking me, she went to her desk, picked up some wet tissues, and wiped her hands. This act hurt me deeply, as she treated me like some unknown parasite. Ms. Bose then yelled, "GO IN," snapping me out of my thoughts. I controlled my emotions and walked toward the CEO's office. Before entering, I knocked on the door. I heard a cold voice from the other side saying "Come in" and this made a shiver run down my spine. I slowly opened the door and stepped in, coming face to face with three men who were seated like kings, their faces cold and their eyes filled with anger.

The door behind me closed, and I realized I was alone in the thick, chilling atmosphere, which made me shiver. I calmed myself and cleared my throat to speak when I received a hard bang on the back of my head. The pain was unbearable. I held my head and turned around to see Ms. Bose holding a rod in her hand. Tears fell from my eyes as I weakly asked, "Why?"

Ms. Bose delivered another blow to my left shoulder, yelling, "This is how we treat betrayers." This time, the hit was much harder than the first, causing me to lose my balance and collapse on the floor. Black dots appeared in my vision, and I lost consciousness.
