Rupali's POV
I was in my room, lying on the bed, tears flowing freely from my eyes. I couldn't help but wonder why Vikram couldn't see the love behind my actions and why he always pinpointed or found mistakes in everything I did. I knew what I did to Riya wasn't right, but wasn't he the one who said he needed the truth no matter what? And I couldn't stand it when Vikram cared about a third person like Riya. Call me obsessed, but this was how I expressed my love—going to great lengths to show my feelings for Vikram.
My thoughts were interrupted when my phone rang with the specific ringtone I had set for Vikram. I wiped my tears and took a deep breath before answering.
"Hello, Vikram," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Rupali, it's me. I know I've been difficult lately, and I want to apologize." His words took me by surprise, and for a moment, I thought he might have slipped and hit his head hard.
I was happy to hear Vikram apologize, and I couldn't help but smile at his words. But the next moment, my smile vanished because of what he said next. Vikram mentioned he wanted to meet Riya along with me. "Again, this woman," I thought, before explaining the situation about her to Vikram.
"Riya had a panic attack when her father asked her about where she was and what happened to her. The doctor advised against triggering any more trauma by bringing up the incident," I explained.
I expected Vikram to drop the plan to meet me, but he shocked me again when he agreed with what I said and still wanted to meet to talk about us. "Alright, let's meet at the café near your company in an hour," I said, my mind racing.
After an hour, I arrived at the café, a mixture of anticipation and apprehension churning in my stomach. I saw Vikram sitting at a table in the corner, looking unusually vulnerable. He stood up as I approached, and we sat down together.
"Rupali, I'm sorry for everything," Vikram began, his voice earnest. "I've been a fool, pushing you away and not being honest with my feelings. I've loved you since we were kids, but I thought I needed to prove myself first. I realize now that I've hurt you in the process."
His words hit me hard, and I felt a lump in my throat. "Vikram, I've always loved you, but I couldn't understand why you kept pushing me away. It hurt."
"I know, and I'm truly sorry," he said, reaching for my hand. "I want to make things right. I want to be with you and support you. As always, we can face everything as a team."
I squeezed his hand gently, feeling a glimmer of hope. "Vikram, I've always wanted to be with you. Let's take this one step at a time."
A sense of relief washed over him, and I could see the sincerity in his eyes. "Thank you, Rupali. We'll take it one step at a time." Then he continued, "But before that, I want to meet Riya and apologize for punishing her for things she didn't do. I know you don't like it when I give attention to others, but in Riya's case, I can't help it. The guilt is killing me inside. I assure you that once I see her and apologize, I will close Riya's chapter and never utter her name again. Can you help me with that?"
Seeing Vikram's genuine remorse and determination to make amends, I felt a mix of emotions. Part of me still felt the sting of jealousy, but another part recognized that this was important for Vikram's peace of mind and our future together.
"Alright, Vikram," I said softly. "I'll help you. Let's do this together."
Vikram's eyes lit up with gratitude. "Thank you, Rupali. I promise this will be the last time I bring Riya into our lives. After this, it's just you and me."
