"Alright everyone, quiet down! Take your seats—" Instructor Rūno Kenzu instructed as he entered the auditoria, students gathered in small groups dispersed as they noticed his arrival.
"—Hurry it up, we don't have all day!" Rūno breathed as he motioned for stragglers to settle. "Alright." Rūno said as the last of the students took their seats. "So today we're going onna' lil' field trip. If you're unaware, every year before your VAULTING, instructors are advised to take their students down to Fōto Rōdāderu to attend a mock VAULTING seminar. This gives you all a chance to showcase your functions in a controlled environment in order to be vaulted properly and efficiently."
Whispers spread throughout the room as the news digested.
"Wait! Did he say Fōto Rōdāderu?" Kure questioned with narrowed eyes.
Kamiwaii and Sutō exchanged worried glances as the familiar District came to mind.
"By now, all of you should be aware of which functions you possess or what spectrum they fall under." Rūno nodded for confirmation.
{SPECTRUM /spek-truhm/ : A broad range of varied but related abilities or powers, the individual features of which tend to overlap or associate with a specific function.}
"Most of you likely gained multiple functions after your CHANNELING, but you only need to showcase one during the mock VAULTING. There's no need to show off or wear yourself out while using your functions. Just pick a function you want to demonstrate, and that's it. This seminar is simply a way for students to not only use their functions outside of training but also to witness each other's functions and have a lil' fun."
More indistinguishable chatter spread across the room as the students grew excited about the chance to use their functions outside of training, let alone the academy.
Kamiwaii couldn't help but feel a mix of anticipation and anxiety.
While the idea of showcasing his function outside the academy was thrilling, for some reason, the thought of Fōto Rōdāderu made his stomach knot. He glanced over at Sutō and Kure—who seemed just as uneasy— wondering if they were having the same doubts.
The instructor's voice broke through the buzz of conversation, drawing everyone's attention back. "Remember, this isn't a competition. It's an opportunity to practice in a different environment and learn from each other. We leave in ten minutes, so get ready to board the bus— TORANKUSU!"
Kodomo's head snapped up at the sound of his name, quickly wiping away the faint traces of drool from his mouth. "Hu-HUH?"
Instructor Rūno shook his head. "Since you're unable to participate due to your injuries, you'll have to stay back in the nurse's office until we return. You should study for your entry exam while we're gone!"
Kodomo scoffed. "Wait, I'm fine man, look!" He insisted, attempting to stand up. He grabbed his crutches but immediately fell back into his seat with a wince of pain.
"Head to Nurse Kaytuya's now Torankusu!" Instructor Rūno demanded, pointing at the door while still shaking his head.
A sly smile spread across Kodomo's face. "Well, if you say so!" He shrugged, carefully standing and balancing on his crutches before straightening up.
Kure kissed his teeth in annoyance. "You' not slick. You know you can walk without those crutches now!" He whispered, nudging Kodomo as he passed by.
"Aye, stop it f*ck boy!" Kodomo hissed as he bucked at Kure.
