Sherman’s Idiots
Lt.Col. Evans: Hey Scarlett wants to know who will still be joining us for the fourth of July bbq? She wants to know how many people are coming.
Col. Potter: Mildred and I will be there.
PFC. Mullins: My husband and I are coming.
SgtMaj. Jensen: My husband and son will be coming with me.
1Lt. Wilds: Grace and I.
Lt.Col. Evans: You are already here shut up.
Maj. Michaelson: I can’t make it sorry.
Cpl. Klinger: I’ll be there.
LCpl. Kelly: I will be there too.
“Nine total will be joining today.” I say. “Thank you and I already know which of the cast is coming.” She tells me. “Sounds good to me baby.” I kiss her temple before I go and join the kids, Grace and Greg so Scarlett can get herself ready for the day. “AUNTIE LIZZIE IS HERE!!” Liz calls out, how did she get in; she doesn’t have a key. Maya and Devon go running to her and Louisa is too invested in the cartoon that’s on to really care. “How did she get in?” Scarlett’s voice comes from behind me scaring the living daylights out of me. “AH FUCK!!” I shriek. “Louri said a bad word!” Greg says like a child. “Mama is a marine, she gets a pass.” Devon says when he walks in the living room holding Liz’s hand. “Ok that is adorable.” Grace says. “Do I get a pass too? I’m a Marine.” Greg asks. “You have to ask Auntie Grace.” Devon says. “Only when children are not present.” Grace tells Greg and he nods in agreement.
Scarlett’s POV
“Lizzie, how did you get in? You don’t have a key to the cabin.” I ask as we head to the kitchen to get started on the food. “The door was unlocked. You told the group chat that it would be and to just come in remember.” She says as she adjusts Maya on her hip. “I completely forgot I said that. “Oh my god Chris.” We hear Louri burst out laughing. “Go show Scarlett. She’s in the kitchen.” Louri says through laughter. “Hello ladies.” Chris says in his captain america voice while wearing the captain america suit from the first avengers movie. Lizzie and I burst out laughing. “Are you going to wear that all day?” I ask. “Not all day, I brought an extra set of clothes.” He says. “Uncle Chrissy you silly.” Maya giggles and he takes her into his arms. “Uncle Chrissy? I’m Captain America.” He says in character. “No you Uncle Chrissy.” She says poking his face. “Ok ok you got me.” He says going back to his normal voice.
After a while everyone had started to arrive and everyone got a kick out of Chris wearing his Captain America suit. “Louri the meat is ready for the grill.” I tell my wife as I make my way to her with said meat on a big plate since she has already gotten the grill fired up and is wearing an apron that says kiss the cook. “Thank you, beautiful.” Damn it she still makes me blush like a schoolgirl. “Wait, you are forgetting something.” She says when I turn to go back inside to get drinks. “What did I forget?” I ask confused and then she gestures to her apron making me laugh but give her a kiss anyway. “Better.” She says. “I better be the only one kissing the cook.” I say with a raised eyebrow. “Well you are the only one the cook wants to kiss.” She says with a cheesy grin. “Good.” I tell her before leaving one more peck on her lips before going to get the drinks to put in the cooler. “SOMEBODY GAVE ME FIRE!!” Devon yells running through the yard with a sparkler. “Who gave him that!?” Louri asks shocked and Flo has a guilty look on her face. “I thought that’s what you Americans did on your independence day. You know the fireworks and sparklers.” Flo says. “It’s ok Flo just make sure he doesn’t burn anything down.” Louri tells her. “That’s why I brought this.” She says pulling a mini fire extinguisher out of her tote bag making Louri burst out laughing.
Sherman’s POV
“Why is Miss Pugh chasing Devon with a fire extinguisher?” I ask my daughter in law when I get to the cabin. “So he doesn’t burn anything down with sparklers.” She says. “You missed when he ran across the yard screaming ‘somebody gave me fire’.” She laughs. “That is Louri’s child.” Mildred says. “Is Chris dressed as Captain America?” I ask, seeing Chris laid back in a lawn chair sipping on a beer. “Yes he is.” Louri says coming up to greet Mildred and I with a hug. “Happy fourth Papa, Mama.” Louri says when she hugs us. “Happy fourth dear. How is your hand?” Mildred asks, taking Louri’s hand to inspect it. “It’s ok, just a little bruised but the bruising has started to get better and go away.” Louri says. Mildred places a small kiss on Louri’s knuckles before letting her hand go. “I don’t normally like violence but I’m glad you broke his jaw.” Mildred says. “And you Jensen.” Mildred calls out and Jensen comes over. “Yes ma’am?” She says. “Thank you for protecting my daughter in law.” She tells her and gives her a hug.
