Chapter #82
October 14th 2022
Louri’s POV
“Have you told them yet?” Greg asks. “No but last month when we had that free day I was able to call them and near the end of the call I told them I was sending them a surprise next month and I send them gifts that I find in the markets in town all the time when I’m deployed so they have no clue that I’m the surprise.” I tell him as the uber pulled up to my neighborhood. I ordered an uber because if I didn’t I would have to check out a jeep from the motor pool and a military vehicle pulling up to the house would most likely scare them and make them worry that I was hurt. “Ok Greg I have to hang up now, I'm almost home.” I tell him. “Ok bye, enjoy surprising them. I know Scar loves it when you do it.” He says before hanging up. “Sorry I didn’t mean to eavesdrop but my husband was in the army. He's retired now but he used to surprise us when his deployments ended early too so this ride is on me Lt. Colonel.” The woman says. “Wow, I can’t ask you to do that.” I tell her. “Oh I know but you know the uber app gives me the option to refuse payment so even if you tried I would just refuse it.” She tells me. “Not even a tip?” I ask and she shakes her head. “Thank you and thank your husband for me.” I tell her as we pull up to the gate. “This is me. Thank you so much.” I tell her and we say our goodbyes and I wait for her to drive away to punch in the code for the gate. When I enter the house it’s quiet. I am greeted by Karsten who I knew would be here. He tells me the kids are asleep right now but Devon went to the office with Scarlett since he can do his school work in Scarlett’s office. “You’re home early and in one piece that’s good.” Karsten says pulling me into a bear hug and I hug him back. “I’m the surprise, I told them about last month.” I tell him. “I think you should go to Scarlett’s office. Apparently nothing seems to be going right today. I think surprising her by coming home early will help.” He tells me. “Yeah, just let me put my bag in my room.” I tell him. I quietly make my way up the stairs to Scarlett and I’s room to put my bag away. Before I go back downstairs I pop my head into the nursery then the girls room and see them sleeping peacefully. I then make my way downstairs. “Here, Scarlett had her driver today so the car is here.” He says when I come back down from putting my bag away.
Scarlett’s POV
Today has been a nightmare but thank god Dad is here so I can go to the office. We are filming for ads and tiktok all day so I can’t bring the kids with me except Devon who needed quiet to do his school work, he is currently in the conference room doing his school work while Dad takes care of the girls and Thomas. But nothing seems to be going right today. The cameraman was late then we had a lighting problem and some more technical problems. I just wish Louri was here to tell me it’ll all be ok. “Mrs. Johansson.” One of my assistants pops her head into my office. “Yes?” I asked stressed. “There is someone here for you.” They say, the tone of her voice tells me she's hiding something and I can see her fighting off a smile. “Let them in then.” I sigh and bow my head. “Heard you’re having a rough day, thought I’d come help you out.” My head snaps up to see Louri standing there. She still has some sand on her boots and dust on her uniform so that means she just got back. “Please tell me I’m not hallucinating due to all of today’s stress.” I want to cry, I'm so relieved to see her here. “I’m not a hallucination Baby. I stopped at the house first and your dad had just gotten the kids to take a nap and told me you were having a rough day so I put my bag in our room and drove over here to see if I can help in anyway and to let you know I’m the surprise I told you about over the phone last month my deployment ended early.” She tells me and I get up and out from my desk and run into her arms. “I’m so glad to see you.” I whisper as I bury my face into her neck. “You smell like desert.” I say and I feel her chest vibrate as she laughs at my comment. “So is there anything I can try and help with?” She asks. “Thankfully not at the moment, Devon might want some help with his math.” I say, causing her to smile. “Lead the way, but I need to do one thing first.” She says before cupping my cheeks and pulling me into a kiss that makes me weak in the knees. I kiss her back without hesitation. “I really missed you.” She says when we pull apart. “I missed you too and so did the kids.” I tell her as we walk to the conference room. Her arm is still around my waist. “Hey Angel, I have someone here who might be able to help you with your math.” I say and he looks up from his work and bursts out in tears before jumping from his chair running into Louri’s arms. She had let me go to kneel down to catch him. “Y-you’re here.” He says crying into her shoulder. “Yes I’m here. I don’t have to leave you guys for a while.” She says in a soothing voice. “Oh my god it’s like those videos you see on the internet.” Kate sniffles beside me. “I know.” I say with a sniffle of my own.
A/N: Louri got to come home early! Anygays see you in the next one.
