CHAPTER 30: Business Meetings & Surprises

*two days later*
30th March 2023

"and you sure you want these artists on this song??" jay z asked me and i nodded "why wouldn't i?" i asked him "you don't like them?" i questioned him over facetime

"no no im not saying that!" he chuckled slightly "this is going to be a big collaboration that's all, i was making sure these were definitely the people you want on it."

"yes 100%" i reply with a smile "why playboi carti?" he asked and i giggled
"his voice is different.. will add something edgy to the track i think" i smiled softly

"well we've sent the demo to madonna, the weeknd and playboi carti" he said and i smiled at him "the weeknd got back in touch straight away and he's sorting his solo out.. just waiting on madonna and playboi carti."

"do you think madonna will jump on it?" i asked her and he shrugged "the song really will resonate with her, you're a talented person. this concept is amazing. and she will love it" jay confirmed and i smiled

talking about music with him felt so normal, i'm glad he is head of my now label.
because not only did i sign for Roc Nation to be my new management team i also co sighed under their music publishing section.

i now own my masters!!

which is HUGE for me, this has all been done in the last two days.
jay always promised me big things, i asked if i could own my masters and i do now, i own everything i create from now. as jay can't give me the right to own my past music because it wasn't published under him. it was published under island records/universal music group.
but i am in negotiations with them to try and own my past music.

i had told beyoncé previously how much it'd mean to me, and she gets it, she owns her music, makes all the profit from it. she knew how important it was to us women.. especially black women to take ownership of the stuff WE create.

"so is this the final track list he asks looking at the email in front of him "yeah!" i smiled

"i'm proud of you, bey and i both are" he said and i smiled "that means everything to me." i say honestly "you guys.. you've taken me under your wing and i couldn't appreciate it anymore than i already do"

"we know" he smiled nodding.

it's crazy to think that bey and jay were once young, in my position, early in their career seeing their lives change in front of their eyes. meeting their idols. and now, they ARE the idols. i aspire to be like them one day.

"honestly, this is a great album run, hit after hit, tune after tune!" he said and i smiled
"thank you, jay." i nod at him through the camera

we've been on this business call for two hours now, listening to the music i have created, confirmed the tracklist and the order of it, and sent out a collaboration request.

"how are you?" he asks randomly and i smile softly "getting there" i nod with a small smile
him and beyoncé are obviously now aware that jude is not actually my boyfriend and it was all a pr stunt to get everyone off my back about zayn. and it didn't, not really. it's all the media bang on about.

i had previously had a heart to heart with beyonce, and jay walked in during it. they both no about my situation with zayn, the baby and him leaving.

so i told beyonce the other day about zayn returning etc. she was supporting, and so was jay.
i'm glad i switched management teams, just wasn't able to break away from this contract.

i feel like it's slowly draining me, and i know it's draining jude. he should be able to go out, enjoy himself and hook up with models. he should be having fun. not having to deal with my fucked up life.
