Chapter 5: Shiny Trouble

Last time, during a game taking place in the woods, Serena encounters a rare shiny Eevee. Recalling how the teacher said if they really wanted it, they could catch it, Serena chases after the cute Pokémon to befriend it.

SERENA: This shiny Eevee will be ours! It's about time we got a new companion, right, Fennekin?

FENNEKIN: Fennekin, Fen, Fenne! (You got that right, let's go!)

SERENA: *Thinks* I know I'm not very experienced at Pokémon battling yet, but I've got to play this smart and battle as hard as I can! *Commands* Fennekin, use Ember on the ground in front of Eevee!

Fennekin obliges, and a thick layer of smoke is created around Eevee so it cannot see.

SERENA: Run behind it, and when the smoke clears out, jump!

The Eevee coughs and looks around for Fennekin, but when it finally spots her, she's poised in the air behind it.

SERENA: Now, Fennekin, Scratch!

Meanwhile, Ash, somehow being the closest to Serena, notices a large smoke cloud, barely visible.

ASH: What's happening over there? Something bad could have happened. Maybe... Maybe I should go check if she's okay!

Back at the battle, the shiny Eevee wasn't successful in dodging fast enough and ended up getting hit by Scratch. The Eevee begins to form a Shadow Ball.

SERENA: Fennekin, a Shadow Ball is going to go towards you soon! Jump and dodge it, then use Ember on Eevee!

EEVEE: Eeeee... Vee! *Fires the Shadow Ball*

Fennekin gracefully dodges the attack with a spring to the air and opens its mouth. It spews out a powerful Ember at the shiny Pokémon, which fails to avoid the attack. Surprisingly, though, Eevee regains its balance quickly and uses Double Team. Fennekin, confused at all the Eevee's, stands still. The Normal-type Pokémon uses Shadow Ball on Fennekin, and due to the multiple attacks, the Fire-type received a hit.

SERENA: Fennekin! Please hang in there for a little longer. Now, run in circles around Eevee until you see an opportunity to attack, then use Scratch!

The Pokémon obeys its Trainer's commands and successfully executed the plan, leaving Eevee exhausted.

SERENA: *Pulls out an empty Poké ball* Now! Go, Poké ball!

The capsule taps on Eevee's head and the Pokémon transforms into white energy. Serena grimaces as she waits for the Poké ball to stop shaking. Finally, a click is heard, and the shiny Eevee is caught.

SERENA: Alright! Fennekin, we just caught a shiny Eevee!

FENNEKIN: Fennekin! Fen Fen Fennekin! (Yes we did! We totally rocked!)

SERENA: *Releases Eevee from its Poké ball* C'mon out!

However, right at that moment, a weird cube is thrown at Serena's feet. As she stows away Eevee's Pokéball, a cage forms around Serena, Fennekin, and Eevee.

SERENA: *Shouts* What is this?!

The cage starts rising from the ground. Serena gasps as she looks up and watches as a giant hovercraft raises the cage up.

Right at that moment, Ash barges through the clear and spots the cage.

ASH: *Squints at it* What in Arceus's name is that?! And... Oh, no! SERENA!

Ash spots Serena in the cage and yells her name. He can either run and get for help or take matters into his own hands. He decides the latter, and with all his strength, he jumps and grabs a bar of the cell midair.

SERENA: Huh? Ash?! Ash, what are you doing?! You shouldn't get yourself dragged into this! Go and fetch some help!

Serena looks up again and notices two guards standing where the cell is going to retract.

SERENA: Oh, Arceus! They saw you! They're going to shake the cage until you fall off, so you better jump down now!

ASH: Serena...

SERENA: GO, before you get even more hurt!

ASH: I promise I'll come back!

And with that, Ash releases his hold on the cell and falls.
