Chapter 46: Beating Heart

Btw, after Chapter 50, I will stop doing these "Last time,"'s. I'm pretty sure you guys remember what happened in the last chapter xD so... yeah. Also, I will put a note before the story every time. Dunno it you guys classify this Chapter as sad... but enjoy, anyways!

Last time, Pikachu, Hawlucha, and Sylveon get knocked out. Now, it's up to Serena and Fennekin to stop J once and for all.

As strength courses through her body, Serena imagines all the tricks she can use, and the results of them. The girl can vaguely hear Ash pleading her to be careful.

SERENA: Fennekin, wait.

J: Salamence, Hyper Beam! Drapion, Night Slash!

Drapion launches itself towards Fennekin, and the latter simply dodges. The beam of light shoots toward the fox Pokémon.

SERENA: Ember, then dodge!

The fire- type uses Ember. The flames barely miss the Hyper Beam and travel right next to it, zooming towards the dragon. With energy, Fennekin then leaps up, scoring a hit on Salamence without a scratch in return.

J: *Mutters to self* What in Arceus.?! I can see all traces of fear around her gone. Maybe she was strong before, but nothing compared to her level now.

SERENA: Flamethrower around them!

Still midair, Fennekin releases Flamethrower and creates a firey circle around her opponents. Suddenly, the flames turn gold and roar straight up, trapping the two Pokémon in a flame vortex.

ASH: Minute by minute, they're getting stronger. The bond between those two and the will to fight created this...

But now, the other side is impossible to see.

Everyone waits, tensed, in case J attacks quickly. Part of the roof on that side collapses, smothering the flames. But everyone knew the Hunter and the Pokémon weren't crushed. Suddenly, Ash cries out in pain and surprise. Serena whips her head towards the right side, where Ash is.

SERENA: ASH?!

The boy lies on the ground, a leg injured and burned. J stands, towering over him triumphantly. Behind her, Salamence closes its mouth, for it had used Flamethrower.

ASH: Can't- can't move!

Serena begins to sprint towards Ash. In one moment, everything happens in slow motion.

Behind her, the group behind the fallen debris open their mouths in shock and horror, but they could do nothing, as they were even farther from Ash than Serena was.

Thump, thump. Thump, thump.

Her beating heart is the only sound Serena hears.

Thump, thump.

No one else but Serena sees everything in slow motion. Her leaps suspend her in the air, feet landing on the ground a couple seconds after.

Thump, thump.

Serena extends her hand, trying to reach out to Ash. J's hand stops moving, finger pointed at Ash. Salamence charges its power, focusing all of it into a sphere of pure energy in front of its mouth.

Thump, thump.

The only way... Serena could see it clearly. And everything snaps back to a normal speed.

The girl skids to a stop between Ash and J's Salamence, spreading her arms out to the sides, in a protective manner.

ASH: Serena? What are you- SERENA!!!

It's okay, Ash. I'll protect you. I'll save you.

The beam of light travels towards Serena with lightning speed.
