Chapter 17: What Friends are For

Last time, Serena realized that the young Ash was the same as the Ash today. Once she meets him walking up to school, she pulls out his handkerchief and asks Ash if he remembers her.

SERENA: It was back at Professor Oak's summer camp, and, you gave this to me!

She lifts up the blue handkerchief, and Ash stares at it for a while. He looks at the handkerchief, then at Serena, and repeats this a couple times.

SERENA: I got scared by a Pokémon and hurt my leg. Then you came and wrapped this around it, and helped me stand up. You told me to 'Never give up until it's over'!

PIKACHU: Pikachu pi pika. (That does sound like you)

ASH: That- that really IS you! The girl with the straw hat!

SERENA: *Thinks* He remembers! *Says* What a relief! I think I would have gone crazy if you didn't remember me... *Blushes*

ASH: *Scratches back of head* Wow, I can see it now...

SERENA: I've been wanting to give this back to you, but... I went back to Kalos right after the camp ended, and never got the chance to thank you.

ASH: *Blushes* Naw, it's nothing! Really!

By that time, they had stopped walking. Suddenly, May, Clemont, Barry, and Dawn jump out next to them.

BARRY: Wow, we just heard EVERYTHING you guys just said!

SERENA: *Backs away as her face turns red* Wh- what?!

MAY: *Grins* Awww, you guys knew each other before?

DAWN: Yeah, so cute!

ASH: *Blushes hysterically* Why are you guys here?

CLEMONT: *Glasses turn white* We saw you two walking alone up to school, and we were about to join you, but since you were in the middle of a conversation, we decided to let you guys talk.

SERENA: You- you eavesdropped on us?! *Tries to cover her face*

DAWN: Well, we couldn't help it!

Everyone laughs except for Ash and Serena, who are still blushing like crazy. Then, Clemont and Barry drag Ash to one side of the sidewalk, and Dawn and May drag Serena to the other side.

CLEMONT: So, I've noticed you help Serena a lot around her.

BARRY: *Nudges Ash with his elbow* You like her, don't you?

ASH: *Face turns red* Hey, kn- knock it off! I do not!

BARRY: Your face totally betrays what you just said!

ASH: Ahhh! Barry, if you don't shut up right now, I'm going to knock your face in!

Meanwhile, on the other side with the girls...

MAY: *Snickers* Serena, when you gonna ask him out?

SERENA: *Blushes like mad* What are you t- talking about?!

DAWN: Face it, Serena. It's obvious you really like Ash. So we're asking you when you're going to ask him out on a date!

MAY: You'd make the cutest couple ever!

Then, the group of four push Ash and Serena back in the middle and go off to the side to talk amongst themselves. Then they sprint back.

MAY: Ash, we're going shopping for a nice suit.

DAWN: And Serena, we're going to all the way to that famous Boutique a couple miles away and buy you the nicest dress anyone has seen!

While Ash and Serena stare blankly, everyone else sighs.

MAY, CLEMONT, BARRY, DAWN: You're going on a date, idiots!

ASH, SERENA: WHAAAAAAAT?!
