Chapter 29: Tournament, Part III

Last time, May and Barry faced off against two new students, Aura and Cole. The battle was ended quickly, as both of May and Barry's Pokémon fainted before any of Aura or Cole's Pokémon did. Serena recognizes them as formidable opponents. Next up: Clemont and Trevor VS. Dawn and Kenny.

When the Trainers in the other battle send out their Poémon, the Trainers in this battle do the same. Chespin and Charmander are battling against Piplup and Prinplup, Piplup's evolved form.

CLEMONT: Chespin, Razor Leaf! It will be near impossible to dodge that move.

TREVOR: Uh, Clemont? I'm- I'm not very good in battles, so you got to help me a bit.

Clemont nods and smiles.

KENNY: Prinplup, use Metal Claw to block the leaves!

DAWN: Piplup, behind it!

Prinplup crosses its arms in front of itself and either blocks or cuts through the attacks. Piplup quickly jumps behind it. Neither Pokémon come out scathed.

CLEMONT: *Nods with glasses white* Clever.

TREVOR: Charmander! Uh, use Scratch on Piplup!

Because Charmander is hyperactive and always runs around, it's no slouch as it rushes towards Piplup, claws raised. Piplup is knocked back from the Normal-type attack.

DAWN: No, Piplup! Hang in there and use Peck on Chespin!

KENNY: Use Hydro Pump on the Charmander!

TREVOR: Ah! Oh no, what should I do?! It's coming too fast, what should I do?!

CLEMONT: *Thinks* Shoot, Trevor's panicking! *Says* Chespin, please dodge and use Vine Whip and carry Charmander out of the way!

Unfortunately, Chespin negates dodging and tries to get Charmander to safety first. It completes this task, but gets hit by Piplup's Peck. However, it takes the hit and manages to stand up again.

TREVOR: Sorry, Clemont! I'll help now, so Charmander, use Smokescreen on the battlefield to give Chespin some cover!

CLEMONT: Thanks! I'll use this. Chespin, jump and use Vine Whip on Piplup!

KENNY: *Quietly so only Dawn, Piplup, and Prinplup can hear* Piplup should jump for this next move. Prinplup, I need you to use Hydro Pump and spin in a full circle.

Piplup agrees and leaps high into the air, but is greeted by Chespin above the smoke as well. The Grass-type immediately uses his move and Piplup, immediately suffering the after-effects of Charmander's Scratch, cannot dodge. The Water-type faints as Dawn yells to the Pokémon. Next, Prinplup's Hydro Pump catches Chespin and Charmander by surprise as it hits both Pokémon. As Chespin is already weakened by a Flying-type move, it faints, and since Water is super-effective on Fire, Charmander is out of the count as well.

SERENA: That was close, but Prinplup is the second stage of Piplup's evolution stage. The upper hand was over to Dawn and Kenny from the start.

CLEMONT: You battled hard. Get a good rest, Chespin.

TREVOR: The same goes to you, Charmander. Return!

DAWN: *As Piplup wakes up* Even though you fainted, you contributed a lot, Piplup! We won!

KENNY: Thanks a bunch, Prinplup. You were awesome! And good job to you too, Dawn! The way you commanded Piplup without hesitation-

DAWN: *Blushes* Stop! Stop! I didn't do that much, so there's need to compliment me like that.

May and Shauna snicker.

SYCAMORE: The winners of both matches are Aura with Cole and Dawn with Kenny. Congratulations to  all the teams who competed in those matches. All of you did very well.

Everyone applauds.

SYCAMORE: The next battles are Ash and Serena VS. Shauna and Tierno, and...

Professor Sycamore announces the next battle participants.

SYCAMORE: Please set yourselves up. Of course, good luck to all of you!

ASH: Looks like we're up. Let's do this!

SERENA: *Nods* Right!
