Why did Andy do that? He's supposed to be my date, not Claire's! Gripping the jewelry box tightly, my resentment towards Claire grows even stronger.
The lounge is filling up with guests. Since it's the women's area, most are young noblewomen, adorned in fancy dresses with diamonds sparkling on their wrists and necks, stabbing my eyes.
D.amn it.
I mutter in frustration. I should be one of them! But now... I raise my wrist, empty without even a silver chain.
And it's all because of Claire! Ever since she publicly broke ties with our father, left the Blue Moon pack, and hooked up with Prince Louis, many packs have abandoned business ties with the Blue Moon pack for fear of Louis's retaliation.
In less than two months, the Blue Moon pack's influence and wealth have taken a huge hit, even my pocket money has shrunk. I can't even remember the last time I went to a jewelry store! If Maria hadn't bumped into me that day and kindly given me a dress, I would have had to attend the prince's ball tonight in an ill-fitting second-hand dress!
How terrible that would have been!
Shaking my head, I try to shake off those dreadful thoughts. But in the blink of an eye, my gaze falls on the jewelry box in my hand.
"I'm just looking... What could go wrong?"
I mutter to myself, seriously examining the velvet jewelry box. There are no visible markings, so I can't tell which brand the jewelry inside might be from. But considering Andy's status, it must be a high-end brand.
Since I can't judge from the outside, I shake the box next to my ear.
As the contents collide with the box, it makes a dull sound, indicating it's something larger than a ring.
What could it be... I can't help but wonder.
"Who cares what it is!" Just then, I hear a voice from within me. "What matters is, are you really going to hand it over to Claire, to make her shine even brighter tonight?"
H.ell no!
I snort, making a decision to myself.
Anyway, Maria just wanted me to comfort Claire, didn't she? I never heard her explicitly say to give jewelry to her.
Excuse found, I quickly slipped into an empty room and quietly opened the jewelry box."My goodness! Such a beautiful diamond bracelet!"
As I watch the luxurious diamond bracelet lying quietly in the jewelry box, in that moment, I even forget about my jealousy towards Claire.
"It's meant for you, only you can pull it off!"
