Claire's POV

As I listened to Evans's "suggestion" to Louis, I almost fled from the castle.

Before entering the study, I had prepared myself for the worst. I thought the worst ending would be leaving Louis.

Although it would break my heart, I believed I could eventually endure it.

But what Garfield Evans did was far more despicable than I had anticipated. Not only did he ask me to watch my fated mate marry another woman, but he also expected me to willingly give up the inheritance rights of my children, making them b.astards!

It was simply outrageous!

With a mixture of sadness and anger, I lowered my head and quickly left the study.

It wasn't until the evening breeze blew over the back of my neck, sending shivers down my arms, that I realized I had actually walked out of the castle. I looked around and found myself standing in a strange meadow. In the distance, the crows cawed loudly from the withered trees, immediately evoking fear in my heart.

I turned around, intending to find my way back by the moonlight, but at that moment, a faint cry came from the darkness.

"Is anyone there?"

"Please... help me."

It sounded like a woman's voice. Who could she be? And where was she?

I hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided to follow the direction of the voice.

Pushing aside the waist-high weeds, I found a heavy door on an ancient stone wall. I approached and saw warm yellow light flickering inside through the cracks in the stone door, indicating someone was there.

Perhaps the woman was trapped here.

"Who are you?" As I leaned against the door crack, observing, a guard inside wearing black armor locked eyes with me.

Startled, I turned to run, but the next moment, accompanied by the sound of falling chains, a silver light flashed before my eyes.

A cold dagger pressed against my neck.

"Wait, you are..."

Before I could explain, the guard recognized my face.

"Oh, my goodness, you're Claire!" The guard hastily withdrew the dagger and knelt down tremblingly before me. "Please forgive my rudeness, Claire, I didn't mean to offend you."

"You didn't hurt me, it's okay." I turned my wrist and looked towards the stone door, which was now fully open, curious as I asked the guard, "What place is this? And why are you guarding this remote corner?"
