Claire's POV

"Can I come in? Louis?"

I leaned forward, carefully listening to the sounds inside the small cabin. Once I confirmed there was someone inside, I spoke up again, "I want to talk to you."

The next moment, the door opened.

Louis grabbed the doorknob with his hand, blocking his tall and sturdy figure in front of the door, "How did you find this place?"

"I asked Alfred. He told me that whenever you felt troubled, you would hide in this little cabin."

"The castle is mine, so I don't need to hide anywhere."

Louis's face was cold, and he looked down at me with an imposing and calm gaze, but when his eyes noticed the pale look on my face due to the evening breeze, his tone softened.

"Come in."

"Thank you."

I smiled and followed Louis into the small cabin.

As soon as we entered, Louis immediately sat in a rocking chair near the fireplace, spreading his arms open and looking at me with a dignified and calm gaze, as if a monarch waiting for his subjects to report.

"You said you wanted to talk, so let's talk."

I thought I had gathered enough courage and could have a good conversation with Louis this time, but when I saw Prince Louis emitting an aura of superiority, I suddenly felt like I was back to the moment I first met him, feeling fearful, respectful, and almost overwhelmed by my love for this man.

"Well..." I swallowed nervously, trying to calm my tense emotions, "I'm here to apologize to you."

"You've already apologized, Claire. And as I told you, I can't accept your apology."

"I know." I gathered my courage, not allowing myself to retreat because of Louis's cold response, "Whether you accept my apology or not is your prerogative. But I lost your mother's jewelry, so I must apologize to you."

Louis fell silent.

I looked into his deep blue eyes. The flickering light of the fire danced in his eyes, reducing the coldness in them and giving me the courage and confidence to continue speaking.

"In fact, I can understand how you feel, Louis. I still remember, three years after my mother's death, Cathy, in order to bully me, deliberately broke a cup my mother left me. That time, I initiated a fight with her for the first time. I beat Cathy hard and even when my father came, he couldn't separate us."

"Although later I was punished by my father and locked in a small room without food for three days, Cathy didn't fare any better. I pulled out a big chunk of her hair, and it took at least three months to grow back. Three days for three months, I think it was worth it."
