Louis's POV

"I don't understand what you mean, Your Highness."

Evans shifted his gaze from the guards to me.

"Is there an urgent situation in the castle? Or have you changed your mind and want to keep me here?"

"I've given you many chances, Evans, but you keep challenging my limits," I said coldly, looking down on Evans.

"Is this why you came to the castle tonight? To persuade me to accept having two wives, while secretly plotting against Claire's life?"

"I never had such intentions, Your Highness," Evans remained composed as ever. "This is the safest place in the world. I couldn't, and wouldn't, harm Claire's life here."

Fed up with Evans's excuses, I raised my hand, and a guard quickly brought a transparent sealed box containing a diamond bracelet stained with blood.

The guard presented it to Evans.

"I want to hear how you explain this bracelet this time," I demanded.

Evans glanced briefly at the bracelet, not even flinching when he noticed the bloodstains. "I have never seen this bracelet before, Your Highness."

"I found it on Cathy Gambino. Just like last time, this diamond bracelet contains the same volatile hallucinogenic gas. If I recall correctly, last time Claire encountered this gas, you said your brother was responsible, and he ended up dead in prison, didn't he? Evans?!"

Evans didn't answer my question. He stared at the bracelet in the box, his gaze turning colder, even with a hint of anger.

"Still refusing to speak, Evans?"

I looked at Evans coldly, as if sizing up a dead man. But... to me, he was no different from a dead man right now.

Anyone who harms Claire deserves death!

With that thought, a surge of killing intent rose within me.

"Break his other leg," I raised my chin, giving the order to the guards detaining Evans.

"Yes, Your Highness." The guard stepped back, raising the baton high and unhesitatingly smashing it onto Evans's leg.

With the sound of bones breaking, Evans gritted his teeth, emitting a muffled groan, then his body swayed and collapsed to the ground.

"Are you ready to admit your crimes now, Evans?"

Cold sweat dripped from Evans's forehead, pain causing his body to tremble uncontrollably, but his eyes remained stubborn, showing no signs of surrender.

"I have never committed the crimes you accuse me of, Your Highness."

"Very well, it seems you are truly a tough guy," I sneered, twirling the ring on my finger, and blandly continued, "Bring his daughter."

"Yes, Your Highness."

"Wait, Louis, what are you doing?"

Evans endured the pain, using his knee to support his trembling body, panic finally showing on his face.

When the guards brought Kitty into the room, tears streaming down her face, Evans's panic turned to fear.

"No, Louis! My daughter is innocent! You can't—"

"I can't?"

Evans's words completely fueled my anger. I stood up and walked briskly to him, grabbing his collar, and dragged the nearly paralyzed Evans up from the ground.

"You even suggested that I let my future child become a b.astard! I doubt you're fit to be a guardian, let alone a father."

"Your Highness, I beg you to spare Kitty!"

Evans continued to plead with me, but after seeing my ruthlessness, Evans turned his head to look at Kitty.

"Run! Kitty, run as fast as you can!"

Kitty stood there, crying and looking at the pale-faced Evans.

"Dad! Please, Your Highness! Don't hurt my dad!"

"I'm sorry, dear." I walked over to Kitty, who was crying, and squatted down beside her.

"I have no quarrel with you, sweetie. But look at that man—"

I pointed at Evans.

"He's a very dangerous man. I think you should stay away from him for a while."

I turned to stare into Evans's dark eyes. "You shouldn't have crossed my line, Evans."

Just as I was about to take Kitty away, Evans shouted at me, "Wait! Louis!" "Kitty is not my daughter! She's Liam's child!"
