Maria's POV

As I glanced at the grandfather clock in the hall, I quickly realized that it was already fifteen minutes past the time I had arranged to meet Andy.

That useless fool, did he manage to steal the letter or not? Doesn't he know how disgusting it is for me to flatter this foolish Claire against my will?!

Damn it, what happened?!

"Well, I'll consider what you said today, Maria."

Just as I was feeling increasingly irritated, Claire suddenly stood up from beside me. She lifted her chin high, giving me a disdainful glance, clearly indicating she wanted me to leave.

"And regarding what you said about Garfield Evans—I will inform Prince Louis. But in fact, he is already wary of Evans. Evans is currently detained by Louis in the castle, so there's no need for you to worry about him anymore."

"What?!"

Bad news kept coming one after another. Hearing that Evans was detained, I almost jumped out of the sofa in shock.

"Evans is detained by Louis?! Why have I never heard about this?!"

"It's a confidential order from Louis. It's normal for you not to know."

That little bitch Claire glanced at me expressionlessly, and I could even detect the contempt in her eyes.

Damn it, when my Chris inherits the throne, you and Louis can wait to die! I cursed viciously in my heart. But now was not the time. I had to control my temper and put on a flattering smile, questioning the little bitch in front of me.

"Why did Louis do this? I mean, Evans is an advisor to the Elder Council and the Alpha of the Black Mountain pack. Even if he committed a crime, he should be judged by the Elder Council before being punished."

"Well, Maria."

Claire turned and snorted at me, "Weren't the things you just said enough to incriminate Evans?!"

This stupid little bitch!

Those words were obviously made up to cover Andy's theft and attract your attention! I was frantic inside, but I couldn't say that out loud. So, I looked into Claire's eyes and was momentarily stunned.

Perhaps wanting to enjoy my silence, Claire spoke again. She stared at my face, seemingly trying to see through me. "But you don't have to worry, Maria. This time, Evans's detention is for some other... personal matters that have made Louis very angry."

"Personal matters?"

A dreadful possibility suddenly occurred to me.
