Claire's POV

"Andy?!"

When I appeared at the doorway with Andy Barton, I saw the shock and fear on Maria's face. "Weren't you detained by Louis? How are you here?"

"I've been in the next room all along, you b.itch! You're so heartless and cruel!"

Andy's teeth gnashed in fury, looking like he wanted to tear Maria's fake face apart.

"You knew I did this for you! Yet you not only refused to plead with Prince Louis for me but also agreed to have me killed! Why? Maria? Why would you do this to me?!"

At this moment, Andy's furious roars carried a hint of sobbing. This poor man probably couldn't understand yet that to someone like Maria, he was nothing more than a stepping stone.

As I looked at Andy with pity, Maria turned her gaze toward him. She stared at Andy, taking several steps back as if he were a dangerous and filthy contaminant.

"You're insane, Andy! How could I ask you to do such a thing?! Evans has already made the letter public, so even if you stole it, it wouldn't..."

"Wait!"

Louis, who had been observing the confrontation, suddenly frowned and interrupted Maria's defense.

"The letter? Are you talking about the one my father gave to Evans before he died?!"

"Could it be that you—"

Maria looked at Louis in shock. Suddenly, her eyes were filled with fear and bewilderment. She covered her mouth with trembling hands, "I... I didn't say anything. I just wanted Andy to know that he... he..."

But at this moment, Maria's lies were already futile.

I could see from Louis's murderous eyes that he, like me, had already understood the drama before us.

Andy had infiltrated the castle because Maria had instructed him to steal the letter.

As for why they did it?

I glanced at Maria with the corner of my eye and then looked at the trembling Andy. The answer was obvious. The letter was a forgery, so they were willing to do anything to steal and destroy it. "Keep talking!"

Louis's voice was exceptionally low, so much so that it was impossible to detect any emotion in his tone.

This was a more terrifying signal than anger because it meant he no longer saw the other party as someone worth his emotions, or even as a living person.

"Keep talking, Maria."

Louis coldly walked up to Maria and looked down at the trembling woman. His blue eyes were like a storm, "Before I twist your neck."
