I wake up an hour early knowing I have to hit the cafe before school. I yawn "man I have to go shopping after class, I can't keep going on like this." I grab my keys, I haven't driven my car in a while. It's been too nice not to walk.
I get to class and I am the only one there, forgetting I left early to head to the cafe. I thought it would have taken longer but I guess not. As I sit there I ponder on what I'm going to write for my essay. Might as well get started since I have extra time and I don't like to be last minute.
My name is Aspen Heineken, I am a 22 year old aspiring reporter. The big dream is to write for big time magazines like Time, People, etc. As of now I'll just write stories about our town, for class projects, and local newspapers.
I am a horror fanatic, I also love mystery and the paranormal. I'm pretty nerdy, I don't really party, it's not my type of crowd. I would label myself as very submissive, I hate confrontation.
I'm cut short with my essay as everyone starts to enter the room, I guess I was so concentrated I didn't hear the bell. A girl I haven't seen before sits next to me. She's your average beautiful, flawless blonde.
Smiling at me "Hey my name is Hannah, do you mind if I sit with you?"
I return her smile "Of course not, I'm Aspen"
She leans to me "He is so fucking hot, right?!"
I instantly rolled my eyes knowing she wouldn't care for my rant. I just shrug my shoulders "yeah, sure."
Mr. Bourbon stands at the front of the class, going over that our essays are due first thing Friday morning as we walk into class.
"I expect each of you to have your essay on my desk! We are not in high school anymore people, this is your career we are talking about."
We all agreed as he was expecting us to answer him, "Alright, as this essay will be your first graded assignment I will allow for you to either get started or continue your essay for the rest of the class period."
As the clock slowly ticked away, it was nearing the end of class.
Hannah leans over "What is the essay supposed to be about? I wasn't here on the first day."
I questioned her "you weren't working this whole time? Why didn't you ask for help sooner?" I continue to explain what we are supposed to do, as I'm pulled from my conversation.
"Miss. Heineken!" His deep, aggressive voice rattles through my ears. "Would you repeat to the class what I just explained?"
I felt everyone's eyes on me, feeling the anxiety creep upwards. Sitting in the ear piercing silence for what felt like ages he speaks up.
"Miss. Heineken I'd like to see you after class, everyone else you're dismissed."
Panic begins to build, the room becomes more and more empty until the last person leaves. The slam of the door echos, I grab my things and stand at the front of Mr. Bourbons desk.
I hadn't noticed he took his jacket off, his sleeves rolled up past his forearm. Tattoos covered them, I swallowed hard and cleared my throat. "You wanted to see me, sir."
He grabs at the bridge of his nose "Why do you disrespect me?"
I quickly cut in, shaking my head "Sir, I would never!" I'm hushed as he raises his voice.
" I told you not to make it a habit, Miss Heineken, This will be the last time I speak to you about this. Got it?"
I look to the ground and whisper "yes, sir"
He snaps. "What? I can't hear you"
I sigh, speaking up "yes, sir" he nods his head in approval. " I'll see you in class on Friday, you may go now"
I take no time to get out of there, I run to my car locking my doors. Breathing relentlessly, I turn the ignition on and crank the AC. As i'm driving I can't shake the feeling I had, I kinda enjoyed the adrenaline I felt. I couldn't help but feel a crush beginning to grow.
