Opal's pov
THE CARRIAGE RIDE WAS SILENT, a silence that made you feel as if you were going to throw up... I felt their eyes on me but I couldn't bring myself to speak nor look at them. The kings went out of their way to prepare a picnic for the three of us and I ruined it. I couldn't stand myself at this very moment.
"Sweetheart. We're not mad at you, we just thought it was best if we stayed quiet in case you wanted to speak." Florian said, his voice was soft but hesitant.
Ambrose cleared his throat. "We know how scary this must be, we didn't know ballet shoes could be a trigger for you but we're willing to help you fight through it, and in future references, we will be more cautious."
I lifted my head quickly, feeling a sudden wave of tears weld up in my eyes. I didn't like the idea of crying in front of them. It felt pitiful and rather annoying.
"It was my fault, I didn't mean to run away but it felt that's what was best!" I clutch my knees tightly, choking on a silent sob.
Florian cooed, bringing me to the seat he and Ambrose sat in. "It's not any of our faults, yeah? You're an amazing little fairy and we intend to treat you like you're one. What you did was purely out of fear and instinct. Which is why we're not mad because you know if you don't feel safe you'd run, correct?"
I nodded slightly.
"Right, so it's nice knowing you'll keep safe until we find you." Ambrose kissed my temple easing the tension that flowed through me.
I wanted to be better than this... I wish I didn't feel so horrible. I let out a small sigh, running my hands through my hair. "What's going on in that mind of yours?" Ambrose asked, slipping his hand under my shirt to rub my stomach.
Florian watched with crinkled eyes.
The carriage bumped up causing me to get pushed back into Ambrose's lap. "I'm sorry."
Florian shook his head letting out a noise I couldn't translate into emotion. "No apologies, what are you saying sorry for? We've spoken about it and it's not your fault, pure instinct, okay?"
I bit my bottom lip, avoiding all eye contact before nodding slowly. "Yeah, okay."
"Look at me," Florian demanded softly. I felt a throb in my throat, the one that felt like you'd start crying. "I-"
Ambrose pulled my chin straightforwardly.
Florian cupped my cheeks and kissed my nose.
I wanted it to be something more, almost..?
"Let's just relax, we have much to talk about later, yes?" I nodded, relaxing against Ambrose as I looked out of the window of the carriage.
The ride was a bit bumpy but it felt relaxing. I felt myself doze off lightly, I could hear both of the kings talking quietly.
