9: Spider Civil War

the next morning, minji limped over to danielle's apartment. she had black bruises and cuts that her healing factor couldn't heal. her eyes were red and her eye bags were swollen from crying.

this loss was so humiliating.

with a sniffle, she slowly knocked on danielle's door. danielle opened it.

"oh my god! minji, what happened?" danielle pulled her inside her apartment.

"h...haerin."

"what did she do?"

"we fought. she won." minji stared at the floor. "she was holding back too. i hate that i couldn't beat her." she groaned. "there's seriously something wrong with her. just being around her sets off my spider sense."

danielle was concerned. she didn't like where this was going. "well go find hyein, and then we'll confront haerin."

"alright."

hyein was still asleep on leeseo's bed. leeseo's legs kept falling asleep from sitting on the floor next to her, so she was pacing her room. every now and again, gaeul would come in asking if hyein needed anything.

suddenly, hyein's phone began to vibrate. leeseo picked it up. someone was calling her and the contact said "curlyhead."

"hyein's phone." leeseo clicked hyein's phone to answer. "she's asleep right now, can i take a message?"

"who is this?" a feminine voice greeted her.

"it's hyunseo. remember me? from the mall?" she responded.

"oh right! it's danielle. listen, we need hyein for something, is there any way she can wake up and meet us somewhere?"

"unfortunately not. anti venom was pretty badly injured, so she's healing right now."

leeseo was met with silence.

"...how do you know about that?" danielle finally asked.

"she had to save me. anyways, if you want to meet her, ill try to wake her up, but she's pretty sick. you'll have to come to my apartment. i'll text you the address." leeseo said.

"thank you, hyunseo."

a few minutes later, two girls climbed in through her window. guess now that hyein's identity was revealed, they had no reason to keep their identities secret.

"what happened to using the door?" leeseo asked, once they were both inside.

"we didn't want to disturb anyone." minji said. at least, leeseo thought it was minji. it had been a while since they saw each other.

"well, she's here." leeseo gestured toward her bed, where a red-cheeked and sleeping hyein rested.

"what happened to her?" danielle asked.

"it was a webspinner. they bit her."

"minju." danielle said.

"she can't heal herself?" minji asked.

"she's trying. she's better than she was yesterday though. her fever has gone down, and her skin stopped bubbling and cracking." leeseo explained.

minji lightly shook hyein. hyein slowly woke up, and she sat up.

"huh?" hyein asked sleepily.

"it's a lot to explain. haerin snapped. we need to go confront her." minji said simply.
