10 hours of driving later and I am finally crossing into Texas. I have never been to Texas before, and undoubtedly nobody would expect me to come here, seeing as Brittany and I always dreamed of going to California instead.

I pull into a Holiday Inn, parking the truck and hopping out before going in and getting a room for the night. 10 hours of drive time will sure make you tired. I get my room key and head on up to my room.

"I miss mate." I hear my wolf say for the billionth time since I left.

"He is not our mate." I remind her.

"He is our mate! You have his mates mark! You can't reject him now." She tells me.

I roll my eyes trying to tune her out again, but I get an uneasy feeling, almost anxious because I miss Colby so bad. I know it's the mate bond and I'm doing my best to ignore it.

My phone has been ringing nonstop since I left, I ended up turning it off hours ago. Brittany found my note about 4 hours after I left, she's left me dozens of voicemails claiming she's going to kill Colby for kidnapping me, even though it says clearly in my note that I'm running away I'm not kidnapped.

I turn my phone back on to see about 100 missed calls between Blaine, Brittany, Caleb, and Colby. I let out a sigh as I swipe the notifications off, I do miss them already but this is what's best for everybody.

I go to my door dash app, because I'm starving and really don't want to drive anymore. I find a Mexican restaurant on there and order a margarita and some chicken nachos with Queso, tipping my driver well and placing the order.

I stand up, tossing my suitcase on the bed and pulling out my toiletries and some pajamas, I head for a shower. My back and shoulders ache from all the driving. I turn the water on, letting it warm up as I go back to make sure I locked the hotel door.

I get in the shower, the warm water soothing my aching muscles. The warm steam thickening the air around me. I lean my head on the wall of the shower, the exhaustion hitting me full force.

"MATE!" I hear my wolf again.

"I already told you, I'm not going back." I huff annoyed with her.

"If you don't finish the mating process soon, I am going to be suppressed again."

"I'm sorry."

I shake my head, tuning her out again as I finish my shower. I step out of the warm water, wrapping a big fluffy towel around my body. I grab my brush, brushing through my tangled hair and then blow drying it. I do my skin care routine, noticing the dark circles under my eyes.

I grab my pajamas slipping them on just in time to hear a knock on my door. I go over to the door, peering out the peephole to see it was my door dash driver. I opened the door, signing for my food and taking it back inside my room. I close the door behind me, locking it back as well.

I settle into bed with my nachos and margarita, and flip on the TV. I scroll through the channels before settling on a rerun of greys anatomy.

My phone started ringing, seeing it was Brittany I decided to answer it, "hello"

"WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?" She screams into the phone.

"You know I can't tell you Britt." I sigh, "I had to leave to keep you all safe."

"Please just come home Danny, we can figure this out. How do you expect me to just go on without you here?" Her voice cracking as she starts to cry.

"I'm not dead Brittany! Colby's brother and Colby's dad are the ones who killed my parents." I let out quietly, I had already filled her in on the world of werewolves and what was going on as she had no idea werewolves were real either, she's human.

"WHAT?!"

"Yep." I huff, taking a long sip of my margarita, "my wolf told me."

"Your wolf? I thought you couldn't talk to your wolf?" She asks confused.

"Oh right I forgot the detail of where I let Colby mark me yesterday and so I can talk to my wolf now but she's going to be suppressed soon if I don't fully mate with Colby and well that's not happening now that I know his family killed mine."

"YOU LET HIM MARK YOU?"

"Yes." I run my hand over my mark absentmindedly.

"Don't you know what happens once you're marked Danny?" She asks like I'm stupid.

"Yeah, yeah the mate bond I know, believe me I know."

"No Danny, heat. You go into heat if you are marked and don't mate." She explains.

"What?" I ask like I definitely didn't hear her right.

"What is your plan when you go into heat?" She asks.

"I don't know, suffer I guess? I mean how bad can it be?"

"Some wolves have died from heat before Danny. You need to come home. I know you don't want him to be your mate, but you being wherever the hell you are and going into heat without him is not a good idea."

"I'll take my chances."

"What if another wolf smells your heat and tries to mate with you instead? You think you can fight off a werewolf alone Danny?"

My eyes glance to the Glock lying on the nightstand, "Strawberries Jam, but my Glock doesn't." I shrug.

She huffs frustrated with me, "Danny please. Just tell me where you are."

"I can't do that Brittany."

"Why not?"

"Because you will bring Colby here."

"I think it's unfair you're holding this against Colby when it was his brother and father, not him, who did it."

I hang up on her, I cannot believe she's on his side right now. His family murdered my family.

I finish my food and drink before tossing the containers in the trash. I pull the covers back on the bed and get in, turning my phone back off so I can get some much needed sleep. I plan to drive further into Texas in the morning, and I am exhausted. It wasn't 5 minutes of laying there and I was out like a light.
