Tommy's POV

The cold wind bit into Tommy's cheeks as he huddled in the alleyway, clutching his worn-out teddy bear. The city lights flickered, casting eerie shadows that only added to his fears. At five years old, Tommy had learned too much about the harshness of life. He pulled his knees to his chest, trying to stay warm under the thin blanket he'd found in a dumpster.

Tommy remembered his mother's face, though the memory was fading. She was kind before the bad man came. The bad man hurt her and then hurt Tommy until one day, they were both gone. Tommy didn't understand why, but he knew he couldn't go back.

His stomach growled, a painful reminder that he hadn't eaten properly in days. He looked at his teddy, the last gift from his mother. "We'll be okay, Mr. Bear," he whispered, though he didn't believe it.

He glanced around the alley, the shadows seeming to close in on him. The noise of the city was distant, muted by the fear that gripped his heart. Every rustle, every movement in the dark made him jump. His small frame shook with cold and terror, but he held onto his teddy bear, the only constant in his young, turbulent life.

Flashback

Tommy's mind drifted back to the days before the bad man. He remembered his mother's laughter, the way she would scoop him up and twirl him around. Her eyes sparkled with joy back then. They lived in a small apartment, but it was filled with love and warmth. Tommy's mother used to read him bedtime stories every night, her voice soft and comforting.

Then the bad man came. Tommy didn't know why he was there, but his presence changed everything. The laughter disappeared, replaced by fear and pain. His mother tried to protect him, but she couldn't. The bad man hurt her, and when she was gone, Tommy was left alone with him. The bad man's cruelty knew no bounds. One night, after a particularly brutal beating, Tommy found the strength to run. He ran until his legs gave out, and he found himself in this cold, dark alley, hiding from the world.
