Tommy's POV

Tommy sat quietly at the breakfast table, savoring the taste of the pancakes. It had been so long since he'd had a proper meal. The warmth of the food and the kindness in John's eyes made him feel a little safer, but the shadows of his past still loomed large in his mind.

As he ate, Tommy's thoughts drifted back to his mother. She was a beautiful woman, with long dark hair and bright blue eyes that always seemed to sparkle. She would sing to him every night, lullabies that made him feel safe and loved. But then the bad man came.

Flashback

Tommy was playing with his toys in the living room when he heard the door slam. His mother's voice was tense, and he peeked around the corner to see a tall man with a mean look on his face. Tommy didn't like him, and he could tell his mother didn't either.

"Please, Jim, just leave us alone," his mother pleaded.

Jim laughed, a cold, cruel sound that made Tommy's stomach twist in fear. "You think you can just get rid of me? You owe me, Maria. You and that little brat."

His mother tried to shield Tommy, but Jim pushed her aside and grabbed Tommy by the arm. "You're coming with me, kid."

Tommy screamed, but his mother couldn't help him. Jim was too strong. He dragged Tommy out of the apartment, and from that day on, life was a nightmare.

Present

Tommy shuddered at the memory. He looked up to see John watching him with concern.

"Are you okay, Tommy?" John asked gently.

Tommy nodded, but the tears in his eyes betrayed him. John reached across the table and took Tommy's hand.

"You're safe now, Tommy. I promise."

Tommy wanted to believe him, but the fear was still too strong.
