Tommy's POV
The tension had been building all week, but Tommy never expected it to explode the way it did. The house, usually filled with warmth, now felt like a pressure cooker ready to burst. And tonight, it finally did.
"Tommy, what is this?" John's voice boomed through the living room as he held up Tommy's school report, his face red with anger. "Your grades have dropped, and you didn't even bother to tell us?"
Tommy's heart pounded in his chest. He felt cornered, like a small animal trapped with no way out. "I... I'm sorry, John. I didn't want to make you mad."
"Well, you've succeeded in doing just that!" John's voice was louder now, frustration etched in every word. "How many times have we told you to come to us if you're struggling? Keeping things to yourself isn't going to help anyone!"
Lily walked in from the kitchen, her expression stern but concerned. "Tommy, you know how important your education is. Why would you hide this from us? We could have helped you before it got this bad."
Tommy's eyes welled up with tears, feeling the weight of their disappointment crushing him. "I didn't want to disappoint you! I know you've done so much for me, and I didn't want to mess it all up!"
Lily's POV
Lily's patience was wearing thin. "Tommy, it's not about disappointment. It's about trust! We've told you time and again that we're here for you, but you keep shutting us out!"
Tommy's voice cracked as he tried to defend himself. "I wasn't shutting you out! I just didn't want to make things worse!"
John slammed the report down on the table, the sound echoing through the room. "But you have made it worse, Tommy! We can't help you if you don't let us! You're part of this family, and that means being honest with us—even when it's hard!"
Tommy's POV
Tommy felt a surge of anger rise within him, mixing with his fear and frustration. "You're always telling me what to do! I didn't ask for this! I didn't ask to be part of this family!"
The words hung in the air like a slap to the face. John and Lily stared at him, stunned into silence. The hurt in their eyes only made Tommy feel worse, but he couldn't stop now.
"You think it's so easy for me? You think I'm just going to fit in like everything's perfect? Well, it's not! I'm trying, but I can't do everything right!"
John's POV
John's anger flared again, but this time it was tinged with pain. "No one's asking you to be perfect, Tommy! We're asking you to be honest! We've given you everything, and all we ask in return is that you trust us enough to let us in!"
Lily stepped forward, her voice trembling with emotion. "Tommy, we love you. But you have to understand, being a family means working through the tough stuff together. You can't just shut us out when things get hard!"
Tommy wiped at his tears angrily, his voice shaking. "I didn't mean to... I just... I'm scared, okay? I'm scared that if I mess up, you'll send me away like everyone else did."
The room fell silent. John's anger melted away, replaced by a deep sadness. He walked over to Tommy, his voice softening. "Tommy, we're not going to send you away. We're angry because we care about you, because we want what's best for you. But you have to meet us halfway."
Lily knelt down beside Tommy, tears in her own eyes. "We're in this together, Tommy. But you have to trust us. We're not perfect either, but we're not going anywhere. You're stuck with us, whether you like it or not."
Tommy's POV
Tommy looked between them, his anger fading as the reality of their words sank in. He didn't want to push them away, didn't want to lose the only family he'd ever really had. With a shaky breath, he nodded, his voice barely a whisper.
"I'm sorry... I'm really sorry."
John pulled him into a tight hug, his voice thick with emotion. "We're sorry too, Tommy. We just want what's best for you. We'll figure this out together, okay?"
Lily joined the embrace, and for a moment, the tension that had threatened to tear them apart dissolved into a shared understanding that they were, after all, a family—flaws and all.
