Tommy's POV
The next day, Tommy and John drove to Dr. Carter's office. Tommy's stomach was in knots, and he clutched Mr. Bear tightly. John noticed his anxiety and gave him a reassuring smile.
"We're going to see Dr. Carter today, Tommy. She's very kind and will help you feel better."
Tommy nodded, though his heart was racing. When they arrived, John held his hand as they walked into the building. The waiting room was bright and welcoming, filled with toys and books. Tommy sat close to John, his eyes wide with nervousness.
After a few minutes, a kind-looking woman with glasses and a warm smile came out to greet them.
"Hello, Tommy. I'm Dr. Carter. It's very nice to meet you." She knelt down to Tommy's level and extended her hand.
Tommy hesitated but then shook her hand. "Hi," he whispered.
Dr. Carter led them into her office, which was cozy and filled with colorful decorations. She invited Tommy to sit on a small couch, and John sat beside him.
"Tommy, I'm here to help you. We're just going to talk today, and you can tell me as much or as little as you want. Is that okay?"
Tommy nodded, still clutching Mr. Bear. Dr. Carter smiled and began asking gentle questions about Tommy's likes and dislikes, his favorite games, and his favorite colors. Slowly, Tommy began to relax, answering her questions in a soft voice.
John's POV
John watched with a mix of hope and sadness as Tommy slowly opened up to Dr. Carter. He could see the boy's fear and pain, but he was also amazed at Tommy's bravery. When the session ended, Dr. Carter spoke with John privately.
"Tommy has been through a lot, John. It's going to take time for him to heal, but he's a resilient boy. I'll work with him to help him process his trauma and build trust."
John nodded, grateful for her help. "Thank you, Dr. Carter. I just want to give him the best chance at a happy life."
Dr. Carter smiled warmly. "You're doing a great job, John. Just keep being there for him. He needs your love and support."
