Tommy's POV
The day started off rocky. Tommy had a disagreement with his teacher at school, which led to a frustrating evening. At home, he struggled to keep his emotions in check. John noticed Tommy's frustration and approached him as he sat at the dinner table, pushing his food around his plate.
"What's wrong, Tommy?" John asked gently.
Tommy's frustration boiled over. "I had a rough day at school. I don't want to talk about it. Everything just feels messed up right now."
John took a seat next to Tommy, trying to approach the situation with empathy. "I understand that you're upset. Sometimes setbacks happen, and it's okay to feel frustrated. Do you want to share what happened with your teacher?"
Tommy hesitated but eventually spoke up. "She was being really strict today. I tried to explain myself, but she just didn't listen. It feels like nothing I do is right."
John listened attentively, nodding. "I'm sorry you had such a tough day. It can be really hard when we feel like we're not being heard. How do you think we can address this situation together?"
Tommy shrugged, feeling defeated. "I don't know. I just feel like I keep messing things up."
John put a comforting hand on Tommy's back. "Everyone makes mistakes and has tough days. It doesn't mean you're messing everything up. Maybe we can come up with some strategies to handle these situations better."
John's POV
John could see the weight of Tommy's frustration and wanted to offer practical support. He knew that handling setbacks constructively was crucial for Tommy's emotional growth.
"Let's talk about what you can do when you encounter difficulties at school," John suggested. "We can brainstorm some strategies for communicating effectively with your teacher and managing your feelings."
Tommy looked slightly reassured. "That sounds like a good idea. I just want to feel like I'm not constantly running into problems."
John smiled encouragingly. "You're not alone in this. We'll work through these challenges together, and I'm here to help you every step of the way."
Tommy nodded, feeling a renewed sense of hope. "Thanks, John. I really appreciate your support."
John felt a deep sense of pride as he saw Tommy starting to open up about his struggles. "We'll get through this, Tommy. Remember, setbacks are just opportunities to learn and grow."
