"Beta yeh jewellery pehno", Shahmeer's mother Saleha said passing me the jewellery box. I eagerly opened the box, marveling at the beautiful gold bangles, jhumkas and chain. I quickly put on the bangles and chain, and as I was about to wear the jhumkas, Shahmeer entered the room.
He still seemed upset. I had apologised countless times; but he was still giving me the silent treatment. I didn't know what else do to or say to make him talk to me.
Ammi then interrupted, " tum taiyar hokar neeche aao, main jaa rahi hu", with a smile and left the room.
I let out a sigh, wanting to be alone with Shahmeer, and now I had the chance. The events of last night replayed in my mind - he had come back to the room late and slept on the sofa instead of our bed. It had hurt me deeply. I turned to face him, and our eyes met. I noticed his hands were covered in blood, and my heart started racing. I quickly walked over to him and examined his hands.
"Tum thik ho? Itna khoon?", I asked worriedly.
Shahmeer's voice was cold as he said, "main thik hoon", and pulled his hand away from mine before walking into the shower, slamming the door shut behind him.
I stood there staring at the locked door, tears forming in my eyes. His cold behaviour was hurting me, and I couldn't bear his silent treatment anymore. His eyes didn't have the warmth they used to, and it felt like they were dead. It was breaking my heart. I wished I hadn't assumed things and had just gone with flow.
But my overthinking ass had caused me to ruin everything. My overthinking had hurt my Shahmeer, and that was never my intention. But, wait a minute why were his hands covered in blood? Did he hurt himself? The thought terrified me. I wished I had just talked to him instead of assuming the worst.
My heart was filled with worry and hurt, and I couldn't bear to see Shahmeer like this. I knew I had to make the things right and find out what was going on with him. I had to show him that I cared and I'm sorry. I quickly wiped away my tears and took a deep breath.
I know I was wrong for assuming foolish things, but that didn't give him the right to ignore me. We can talk like adults and sort out the misunderstanding.
I walked towards the bed and sat there eagerly waiting for him to come out of the shower, but the sound of the running water made it clear that he was still showering.
To pass the time, I paced around the room trying to occupy myself with silly distractions until he emerged from the shower.
I lifted the hem of golden frock I was wearing and twirled, but it was difficult to do so in this heavy, long frock.
As I spun, my leg caught the edge of the fabric, causing me to trip, and a scream escaped my lips as I was about to fall on my face.
I squeezed my eyes shut in fear, but then I realised I hadn't hit the ground; a pair of strong arms had caught me just before I fell.
I opened my eyes to find myself staring into captivating brown eyes that made my heart race.
Water dripped from his soaked hair, and his expression was filled with confusion about what I was doing. But I didn't focus on his eyes; instead, I looked at his lips, which was biting while gazing at me intently.
I leaned in closer to his face, maintaining eye contact as he continued to hold me in his arms.
I bit my lips as our breathes mingled with each other. I closed my eyes and leaned closer, ready to place my lips on his.
But, he made me stand up straight and walked into the closet, making me feel embarrassed about my actions. What the hell? Last night I was the one too scared of intimacy, and now I was trying to kiss him.
