"She has been given an excessive amount of medication and will be need to be closely monitored for the next 48 hours. If she does not regain consciousness within that time frame, there may be nothing more that can be done", he explained gently, offering a sympathetic smile as he placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.
Tears streamed down my face as I heard those words, the thought of losing her causing sobs to rack my body.
"Ya Allah, please save her, please", I prayed desperately, hoping for a miracle to keep her with us.
I can't describe the overwhelming emotions that flood through me as I stand by the door, and see her body attached to drips. Seeing her lying there, so fragile and vulnerable, breaks my heart into a million pieces. I feel helpless, like there's nothing I can do to ease her pain or save her from this.
I close my eyes and pray to Allah, praying with every fiber of my being for her to be saved. My hands trembled as I raise them to the sky, tears streaming down my face as I beg for her life to be spared.
"Ya Allah, please...please save my Minha. She is my everything, my reason for living. I...I cannot bear to lose her", I whisper through choked sobs.
The sounds of machines beeping and the hushed voices of doctors and nurses fade into the background as I pour my heart out to Allah.
"Minha...Meri jaan, please fight this battle. I need you, we all need you. You are strong, you are brave, you will come out of this stronger this ever", I whisper, willing her to hear me, to feel my love and support.
And so I continued to pray, to plead with Allah to save Minha, to give us another chance at happiness together. I will not give up hope, I will not stop fighting for her life.
Minha is my world, and I will do whatever it takes to keep her in it.
I was startled when I heard Maani calling my name. As I turned to look at him, I saw his red and puffy eyes, a clear sign that he had been crying. My heart sank when I saw him with Mishi, running towards me with tears streaming down my face.
I immediately picked him up and hugged him tightly, feeling his small body shake with sobs.
In that moment, I felt completely helpless and desperate. I had never shed tears like this before in my life. Maani asked me with his face buried in my neck, "Chachu, ammu ko kuch nahi hoga na?" My own voice trembled as I tried to find the right words to comfort him.
"Haan, Maani, usse kuch nahi hoga. Woh thik hojayegi", I managed to say in a hopeful yet determined tone.
I couldn't bear the thought of anything happening to her. She couldn't leave me like this. We were supposed to build a life together. Have our own kids and a beautiful life.
"Please, Ya Allah", I begged, "Please save her. I can't lose her, not like this. She is my sweet little wifey, and I can't imagine my life without her. Please don't take her away from me".
"Unhe bohot khoon aa raha tha, chachu", he said quietly, pulling away from my neck.
Tears were streaming down his face. I reached out and wiped his tears as he bit his lip looking at me with his body shaking with sobs.
His words cut deep into my heart, filling me with a sense of dread. I could see the fear in his eyes when he discovered her covered in blood. I can only imagine the overwhelming terror and helplessness he must have felt as he tried to wake her up.
The thought of his emotions in that moment is truly heart-wrenching, and it pains me to even picture the situation. It must have been a nightmare for him to witness such a traumatic event. The weight of the situation must have been unbearable for him to bear. The fear and uncertainty he must have experienced are unimaginable.
My heart aches for him and the pain he must have endured.
Mishi approached us, her eyes brimming with tears. "How did this happen?", she asked.
I replied angrily, "I don't know, you tell me. You were in the house, right? Why was everyone sleeping when that person came and and shot her? Where were they? How do they not know anything?", the confusion and frustration were evident as we tried to make sense of the situation.
"I wasn't at home, I was coming from the office", Mishi explained wiping her tears. "Uzair called me and said Rabia wasn't answering her phone, so he asked me to go check on her", she added. Hearing this made me feel frustrated, so I hugged Maani even tighter.
"Why would someone want to kill her? She didn't do anything wrong to any one?", Mishi cried out, her voice trembling and filled with pain and confusion.
"Koun ho sakta hai, woh?", I muttered, I have a gut feeling in my heart and mind that it was Shabbir.
Everything that happens in her is because of Shabbir, I will burn him alive.
"A man", Maani said in a whisper, his voice barely audible as he clung to me, "he was...he was dressed in all black. He...he had a...he had a gun in his hand". I glanced down at him, feeling the tremble of his body agaisnt mine.
His arms tightened around my neck and his legs wrapped securely around my waist, squeezing even harder as if trying to shield himself from the horror of his memories.
"Woh...Woh Ammu ko dekh kar has raha tha", he continued, his voice shaking with emotion.
"Ammu ke muh aur badan se khoon nikal raha tha." Each word was like a dagger piercing through the fabric of my heart.
I struggled to comprehend the depth of what he had witnessed; it was truly heart breaking. I couldn't fathom how he might have felt seeing her in such a devastated state. No one should ever have to bear that kind of anguish---especially not someone as young as Maani. His innocent mind had already endured far too much for one so small; imagining the weight of that moment is almost unbearable.
I will kill that fucker, I swear on my love for her, if anything happens to her then I will fucking burn him alive.
As three of us stood anxiously outside her hospital room, I suddenly noticed a nurse rushing out in a state of panic, urgently calling out for the doctor while expressing alarm that her pulse was dropping.
A lump formed in my throat as I involuntarily gulped my saliva, fear washing over me at the sight of the doctor and several nurses hurriedly rushing into the room, their expressions filled with urgency and concern.
"Doctor, what's wrong?", I managed to ask, my voice barely above a whisper.
Tears threatened to spill from my eyes as I struggled to find my voice; it felt as though all strength had left my body and I was paralyzed in place. Inside the room, the doctor worked swiftly to administer an injection while others focused intently on the heart monitoring machine.
The beeping sound emanating from it became increasingly erratic, each fluctuation making me feel more hopeless. The line on that screen struggled to stabilize, and with each dip and rise, a chilling thought crossed my mind.
If that line were to go flat, it would mean not just losing her but also dimming forever the light that brightened my dark existence.
