I found myself standing there, my eyes fixed on her as she busily ignored my presence. Confusion swirled within me; I couldn't fathom the reason for her apparent indifference.
"Allah ka shukar hai, tum thik ho", ammi said tenderly, gently kissing her forehead as a gesture of warmth and relief.
"Ji, Allah ka shukar hai", she murmured in response, a smile breaking through the earlier tension on her face.
My mother continued, "hum toh ghabra gaye the; tab pata chala ke tumhe goli lagi hai", and with that she shifted slightly to take a seat on the bed beside her.
"Waise koun tha woh haiwan jisne tum par goli chalayi?", my chachi interjected cautiously, prompting my dear wifey to meet her gaze while nervously biting her lips.
"I don't know, Maine uska chehra nahi dekha", she replied with an unwavering expression, yet her response left me in bewilderment.
I couldn't understand why she would lie; it was clear to me that she knows it was Shabbir who shot her.
"Allah use gharat kare! Hamari phool jaisi bacchi ka kya haal bana diya hai?", ammi lamented angrily allowing a smile to bloom on my face, despite the seriousness of the situation.
In that moment, I felt a deep-seated anger toward Shabbir---he deserved every curse and retribution that was coming to him from me.
"Kya matlab kya haal bana diya hai? Main toh thik hoon", she declared firmly as if trying to reassure herself despite every thing swirling around us.
Her declaration made me look at her firmly. I wonder why she was behaving so coldly towards them.
What could have happened to her?
"Kahan thik ho tum, you look so pale and thin", ammi said in a sad tone.
Her words lingered in the air, leaving me concerned for her well-being. I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as I tried to make sense of her sudden change in behaviour.
It seems like I may have done something to upset her. Is she still upset over our conversation from last night? I've already apologized, but I wonder what more she expect me to do.
Does she expect me to beg her to forgive me and to not be so distant and cold towards me?
One common observation I've made about women Is that when they are upset or angry, they tend to take out their emotions on those around them. It's like they expect everyone else to feel the same way they do. This behaviour can be frustrating and confusing at the same time.
It's important to remember to communicate openly and address issues directly instead of projecting emotions onto others.
"Ma'am, it's time for the patient to rest", the nurse said catching my attention away from Minha. The nurse, a young woman in her twenties wearing a hijab, prompting ammi and chachi to leave the room.
But, I stood there, wanted to speak with Minha and wondered why she was ignoring me.
Ahmm, I heard a throat clearing voice, I turned my head to see the looking at me with raised brow. Our eyes briefly met before I quickly shifted my focus to Minha, who was lying there with clenched fist and a fierce glare.
I couldn't understand why she was being this moody. Is she in her periods or what?
It was a tense moment, filled with unspoken tension and discomfort.
"When is her discharge?", I inquired the nurse while looking at the floor.
I knew why she was glaring at me.
