Shahmeer Mirza
*****************
I walked into the living room to see the women trying on jewellery while the men sipped chai. It was 8'o clock in the evening, and my family seemed to treat chai like an obsession; they would trade or even fight over a single cup.
I took a seat on the single couch opposite Minha, who looked beautiful in her golden frock with a maroon dupatta draped over her left shoulder.
Her long, silky brown hair cascaded down her shoulders, and her chocolate brown eyes, enhanced by kohl, looked even more captivating. I could easily get lost in her gaze, but her lips had become my newest addiction.
The kiss we shared in the room ignited a fire within me. If Mannat hadn't interrupted our intimate moment, we might have become one today---no barriers between just our love.
She is the light in my darkness.
Though I may appear calm and composed, the truth is far different; I'm a monster who kills without a second thought, as I've been raised to be.
But to my family and friends, I'm a caring and loving person, and thats the persona I wish to maintain. Some truths are better left hidden from everyone.
I also want to shield Minha from this monstrous part of me; otherwise, she might leave me. I can't lose my childhood love now that she has become mine.
I have spent most of my life in the shadows, watching her from a distance. However, I've grown tired of hiding, which is why I approached her in the cafe. I wanted to mske myself known to her, to be seen, liked, loved--draw her attraction as Iam drawn to her.
Is that too much to ask for?
"Chai peeyenge, Shahmeer bhai?", Rabia bhabhi asked as she mixed sugar into a cup of chai for ammi.
"Ji bhabhi", I replied, noticing how Minha looked at me, her white gold-plated emerald green pear drop necklace perfectly accentuating her swan-like neck.
"It looks good, bhabhi", Dua complimented, sitting next to Mannat, who was trying on anklets.
Mannat loves wearing anklets.
Minha turned her head and lightly raised her brow as she traced her fingers over the necklace. I nodded, indicating that it looked stunning on her.
The necklace's value increased simply because it was worn by my woman.
"Ahem, Shahmeer bhai, chai thandi ho rahi hai", bhabhi teased with a smile, glancing between me and Minha.
Minha smiled shyly, removed the necklace, and handed it to ammi while I took a sip of my chai.
"Uzair bhai nahi aaye?", I asked bhabhi.
"He is in the garden attending a call", bhabhi replied.
"Ok", saying I gave her a light smile and continued sipping my chai. It was hard to believe that my childhood crush and love is sitting in front of me as my wife, with our walima set for tomorrow.
I can proudly say that Shahmeer Mirza always gets what he wants.
I never had any weakness in my life---neither from my friends nor my family, because they are my strength. They are capable of protecting themselves in the line of work I'm in.
But Minha, my little innocent wife, is unaware of my life and the way her world would turn in this haveli. It's not that we will torture her mentally or physically, but her life will be always in danger. While I intend to protect her with my life, others might use her against me.
