[Ford POV]:
When I finally came upstairs and helped F finish putting the groceries away I found a paper in one of the bags. "Mama Missfortune's traveling Carnival and Freak Show" that's it! That's how I'll help him get over that recent trauma, a good distraction. "Oh yeah, they just gave that to me on my way out, prolly paid to by someone else I reckon" F mumbled while closing the newly stocked cabinet. "Well, we are studying the unusual. Even if it's fake it could still be fun to go" I suggested. "You really think so?" He looked at me with innocent eyes that could easily be swayed by my approval. "Sure! It'll be nice to get out of the basement too, and the house" I smile. "I guess it'll be fun to watch pig races or eat kettle corn" he smiles for the first time in a few days. "That's the spirit!" I gave him a brief hug. "Now, let me shower real quick and we'll head out!" I walked out to gather some clothes, he nodded as I was on my way out of the kitchen.

Soon enough, we were well on our way. My Muse said he could wait a while, so I'm sure he'll be fine. I made sure to remind Fiddleford that if I ever see a pig in my house I'm sending him back to the South, and he laughed. We watched the races, he got some kettle corn, he almost made me throw up by taking me on a bunch of spinning rides like The Zipper, Zero Gravity, ECT. He even forced me on The Shock Drop which is where I finally told him if I did anything worse after that, I was going to puke. He then decided taking me to the animal pens would relax me. I'll admit though, the sheep and goats were really cute, but we already had an outside goat that Fiddleford found in our collage dorm a while back. Its probably got a family by now even, so we're good on pets even though I knew he really wanted to bid on one of the animals.
We looked at the cows, bunnies, chickens and pigs too, I even saw a girl walking a cow around the barns. I didn't think people were actually lucky enough to win any of the animals, out guess that proves me wrong. Fiddleford seemed to have relaxed quite a lot and I was glad to have made him happy. There were even fun acts like a magician and some dolphin trainers. We watched a few and as it got dark he took me to the Faris wheel. Even though I didn't want to go on anything dangerous after what he put me through at the beginning, it was very beautiful with all the lights on and the dark sky and stars above. He even took a picture, which I felt a bit embarrassed about but it was sweet. On the way out he found something and bought it for me. I was surprised anything could grow, I mean sure the winter is coming to an end but it's still a bit wet outside for farming, but alas what he bought me was definitely alive. He said it reminded him of me, so he likely assumed I'd like it. It was a gourd with a human face, well like is a strong word but it could be fun to study.
I ended up putting it on a shelf in our lab. Fiddleford fell asleep on the couch so I went to work on the portal until I was ready to go to bed myself, and I could've sworn I heard that thing groaning from the shelf. I wanted to be nice though, maybe it'll rot eventually?? That's all I can hope. I continued to work on the portal. After some hours late into the night I felt like my body was going to collapse. I didn't want to admit it but I should leave the portal because for now. I headed to my room and slept for the night.
When I returned the next morning the gourd was making a difference face even. It was strange but I made a note of it to put in my journal later and tried to ignore it while I worked on the portal. F was sleeping in, which was fine since he deserved it. I knew it would be good for him. Attaching certain prices of the portal to the ceiling was one of the harder parts, but my muse insisted it looked a certain way in order to function properly. I studied the blueprints again that day to try and make sense of some of its writings and symbols but I couldn't find anything like it in any of my language books or in any of my history books on ancient civilizations. I decided to give it up and continue working.
When F finally woke he came downstairs. "Hey Ford.. do you know what is exactly on the other side of that portal?" He asked. I thought for a moment "Well, it's a gateway between dimensions, so likely another dimension. Hopefully something to explain the certain field pulling weirdness to this town" I shrugged. "But what if it's dangerous?" He ask. I knew he'd say something like that one day, since he hadn't questioned it much so far. "We'll never know unless we try" I replied. I could tell he didn't like that answer. "Shouldn't we send in some sort of test dummy?" He suggested. "Who in town would me smart enough or willing enough to do that?" I asked. "Not anyone in town Ford! Like an actual test dummy" he explained. I felt a little silly after that, and embarrassed realizing I had admitted I'd really go this far for science and/or my Muse. If only I could tell him about my Muse.
"Right, sorry. That's an excellent idea, if you'd like you can start working on it while I make some more adjustments" I suggested. He nodded and seemed to relax again.
