[Ford POV]

When I woke from.. what I assume was maybe a dream, my lower half was covered in my blankets. I usually just knock them to the ground during myself sleep but it looked as if it had been neatly placed by someone. I leaned up and rubbed my eyes, putting my glasses on. I stretched and just as I was about to get up heard ghostly whispering, my journal began to flip through itself. I blinked again and my Muse revealed himself to me. I nearly jolted out of my skin. "Yellow!" He smirks pun-ishly and glances towards me as his humanoid form glows accordingly to his joke before fading back to normal. "Oh, um, hey Cipher" I tried to organize myself again. "So, how's my precious portal?" He smiles. His smile is always strange, it doesn't show like a human. It's almost like a horizontal crescent moon, but just pointy teeth. In a strange way though, it's alluring. His teeth aren't knife sharp, but they do break the skin a bit easily. "Oh, um. I think if everything goes right it'll be ready to test tomorrow" I began to fix my hair from the effect of sleepiness. "Aww, you always know just how to cheer me up. I can't wait to show you all the answers of this world, or maybe even the galaxy" He drifts over to me with an affectionate glint in his eye. I find myself blushing a bit "Well if I didn't know any better, I'd say that sounds quite romantic, Cipher" I smirked a bit bashfully. He chuckles "Well, I'd play along and wink at you but you probably wouldn't be able to tell" He flicks up his triangular dark blue eye patch, the skin under it isn't even a sewn or damaged second eye, it's just a slight skull-ish dent but, it's all skin, no sign of injury, just simply only the one eye. I guess even a being like him has limitations. Maybe it's for the best though, it would probably be difficult for him to transition between the two. He flicks it back down. I just smile and let a gentle laugh. "You're quiet the charmer, my Muse" I tuck a small piece of hair behind my ear. He leans closer and caresses my cheek, then gently runs his fingers through my hair. He just shrugs at my remark, "Anyway, as much as I love spending alone time with you, is it okay if we go finish the test preparations for my portal, Sweetheart?" He ask nicely. I was too lost in the hypnotic sensations he gave me, but at the same time I didn't want the moment to end. "I mean, it's a bit late, wouldn't you rather relax?" I suggested. His gaze shifts a bit. Maybe someone like him doesn't quite need to, but I need to. "Okay, maybe just for a little while" He shrugs and sits next to me. He leans his head on my shoulder. My face lightly reddens again. "Hey, I know you don't need to eat or sleep, but you will come to appreciate it at some point" I put my arm around him. "You just expect me to close my eye and magically start loving this stuff though?" He scoffs. "Well, give it a try, and if you can't, then I'll be here" I explain. He sighs and I watch him attempt to close his eye. "Sometimes deep breathing or listening to specific sounds helps" I suggested. He grumbled and tried deep breathing, at first he was pretty bad at it but he eventually got it. It took a bit, but I somehow did manage to get him to sleep. He slowly drifted into my lap and I wrapped the blanket around him. Surprisingly, he was able to withhold the humanoid form the whole time, he even looked peaceful. I watched him for a while, sometimes running my fingers through his hair, eventually though I wound back asleep as well.
He greeted me in the morning quite loudly. "Rise and shine, Sixer!" He rang a bell he summoned very obnoxiously. I grumbled and rubbed the tiredness out of my eyes. I got up and put my coat on. "Did you have to be so loud?" I grumbled. He snaps away the bell I to thin air. "Yep! Its portal test day! Feel more tired than usual? I borrowed your body again to speed things up and—" he stops and glances at a watch I actually never noticed before on his wrist. "Ѻ𝙝 𝖋⊍𝘾🇰 I'm late for something!" He vanished like the wind before I could get a word out. He has a disappearing habit actually. I sighed and decided I'd go see Fiddleford.

I headed to check his room to see if he was still hiding in there. I gently knocked before entering. "Fiddleford?" I called out. When I entered he was asleep and his desk had a few photos on it, one of the two of us, and one of what I assume is his ex wife and her son. He never talks about the kid so maybe it's not his or something, but it's not my business. "Fiddleford?" I gently shook his shoulder to wake him. He got up and rubbed his eyes. "It's test day, Fidd" I smiled. He didn't smile back but he just nodded and grabbed his lab coat. We headed to the basement and he double knotted a rope to the test dummy. We turned the keys and powered up the portal. We stood by the safety line and everything seemed to be ready to go according to plan. I gently loosened my grip on the road and watched the test dummy begin to fly into the portal. I smile "It's working! It's—" I was cut off by Fiddleford's screaming. The rope caught on his wrist and dragged him into the portal, I grabbed as hard as I could and began to pull it back. "Fiddleford! I've got you!" I grunted and the portal was tough but not even half of him entered the other side. As much as this wasn't meant to happen though, I couldn't help but wonder what he was seeing. The stars, The answers to the universe, The heavens? I can't get sidetracked though. I gave one hard tug and the portal threw Fiddleford back. He hit the ground and I could see his heart rate had spiked, even his breathing. His pupils dilated and vibrates with horror, or perhaps awe? "Is it working?! What did you see?!" I pressed. He twitched and he spoke something I couldn't quite understand, it was like a code, or maybe backwards? I couldn't tell but as much as I was confused I was fascinated, is that petty? "When Gravity Falls and Earth becomes sky, fear the beast with just one eye!" He leans up. "What? Fidd, get ahold of yourself that doesn't make any sense!" I don't like to lash out at him but it was impulsive. I tried to put my hand on his shoulder, comfort him, but he pulled away. "Ford the machine is dangerous, you'll kill us all! Whoever you've been working with, I-I can't live with what we've done.. this is a nightmare i'd just rather forget, i-I quit!" he stands up and tosses off his lab coat. What?! But I've worked so hard. "Fiddleford, this is my life's work!" I tried to get his attention again. He stops and looks at me, clutching his chest "I fear we've released a grave danger in the world, I can't take this" he explained with pain in his voice. I scoffed and stood up "Fine, I'll do it without you! I don't need you, I don't need anyone!" I yelled. When he left I heard whispers. Was it my Muse? Was I really starting to go insane? Was Fiddleford right?
