[Stanley POV/Summary]:
And there it was. I screwed up again. I tired for weeks to get that damn machine on. I tried to read through his Journal but it's hard to read cursive and without the other ones for the blue prints I can't understand it.
And before I knew it, 30 years flew by. But things started looking up. 2012 came, I had my niece and nephew over for a couple months, but he'll. Maybe those kids will find the other journals and I can just confiscate it. For now I have to keep this hidden still, I mean I had to lie to their parents, my parents, and fake my death but, still there's something about them. Especially Dylan, er, Dipper maybe it was? He seems to have a knack for all things paranormal and definitely been watching too much TV on that kids and preteens cartoon channel. They both remind me of sixer and I actually. No matter what though, I can't get distracted.
The portal finally seems to be doing better. I just gotta get some tons of toxic waste to fuel it, and given my unintentional criminal skills, it shouldn't be hard.
If it comes down to it, I can always count on Soos' to listen to me about keeping them out of the basement. Soos may be sort of a.. child or something, but he doesn't really have a good reason not to listen to me.
★★★
Unfortunately I was pretty right about Dipper being a paranormal investigator type, but what I didn't expect is that Mabel is as well. They've been solving Mystery all summer. Maybe it's just the town rubbing off on those California smarts that probably run through their veins or something. Maybe not smarts ,but whatever magic the famous people have up their that makes em smart enough to be billionaires, it clearly runs in their blood somewhere.
Wish I had that when I first started this whole con artist stuff, but at least I don't have to hide from the government that much anymore.
Minor set backs though, my little arch enemy in business has been trying to steal the property from me and he succeeded a couple times, before being stopped to Mabel and Dipper. Didn't think these 12 year olds would throw the little 8 year old scammer in prison, but hey, whatever works.
Once we finally got settled back in things we're looking up again, until one morning when Dipper decided to ask me 100 questions. "Hey grunkle Stan, how come you don't have any pictures of.. well anything, actually" The greasy brunette ask. "I dunno, never thought about it. I'm an in-the-moment guy I guess. Why don't you go play at the arcade or something with Soos, alright? I got work to do" I shrugged, hoping he'd believe it. "Way to dodge a question" The boy mumbled under his breath. I stopped and looked at him "Wanna speak up?" I grumbled. "No, it was nothing grunkle Stan!" Dipper leaves the room. I assumed the rest of the day would go back to normal, just running the tours, gift shop, then basement at end of the day. I guess I should've stayed on guard. Middle of the day, Mabel walks up to me, and here it comes. She's always got some weird questions to ask. "Hey, grunkle Stan, Dipper's going through a bunch of old stuff and making a mess can you tell him to organize it or something?" She ask. Old stuff? Like photo albums or whatever? I thought I hid those! God damnit, the kids are great but they're gonna be the death of me. "Don't worry about it pumpkin, I'll deal with it" I smile and head up to the attic. I wonder what Sixer's up to right now, all I can hope is that he's still alive. Sometimes it feels like hes still around, but I know it's not true. I just hand help it, thinking I can see him sometimes. Maybe all of this will go away soon, I mean the kids even found the other journals! Gotta deal with Dipper first though before he messes this up. I saw him searching the loft area of his room that I had covered with a curtain previously. I heard him riffling around up there "Dipper what're you doing? There's nothing up there but fibreglass and mouse traps" Which was half true. I heard the boy nearly jump out of his skin and I had to repress the urge to laugh. "Stan! I just! One of my papers blew up here, Mabel leaving the window open all the time ya know" he awkwardly laughs but he's terrible at lying. "Kid, what paper? You're not doing homework or something are you? Enjoy your summer, go play outside or flirt with a girl or something" I sighed. He looks defeated so he closes up some of the boxes and comes down. He dust himself off and fixes the curtain, then leaves to go find Mabel. That was a close call though. I can't remember what all is up there but if he searched harder he probably would've found something.
I headed back to my usual work, hoping that would be the end of it. Unfortunately I was hoping too high I suppose. When I was begining to close up that night the kids came inside looking like the woods ate them and spat them back out. "Hey, you two get hit by a bus or something?" I smiled. "Dipper almost got us eaten by a monster" Mabel explained. "You kids and your imaginations. You should get the leaves out of your hair though and ready for bed soon, alright?" They both shrugged and headed off.
I could've sworn not long after though I was getting one of those hallucinations again. I thought I heard the answering machine going off, maybe Sixer trying to talk to me. I waited by it for little while before deciding it was nothing, soon heading back into the basement.
I looked through Ford's messy desk and began to set up his journals. Thanks to the kids dealing with Gideon, the second one's in my hands, and with Dipper the third as well. I had to print out copies of Sixer's research though just so the sweaty little thing wouldn't get in the way. Finally, after all these years. I'll bring him home.
