"I mean. Maybe we- I dont know. Talk somewhere?" Neku asked, as Dennis pondered the question. "Hmm..Suppose I can comply. Especially if that demon child isnt near."
Making their way out the building, Neku turned to Dennis handing him the crucifix. "..Youre handing me such a despicable item as that?"
"Uhh..I thought you- liked the devotion to-" Neku presumed, as Dennis started judgementally. "Heavens no."
"...Wait- so. ARE you a Priest?" Neku asked suspiciously, eyeing down Dennis as Dennis looked off to the side. "..Regretfully, thats all Im known for yes. I dont wish to be, but alas."
"So, why do you constantly parade around discussing the Lord or- whatever?" Neku asked as Dennis gestured for Neku to sit near one of the bushes with him. Neku nervously approached, sitting next to Dennis as Dennis spoke up. "Let me ask you this. Have you ever branched out as another means to feel something?"
"Like how?" Neku asked confused. Dennis sighed. "I mean, when such tragedies occur in life. You turn to certain things, only to realize the hypocrisy which lies within."
"You mind not- speaking in tounge twisters?" Neku asked, feeling quite nauseous over the words as Dennis put it simply. "For heavens sake, whatever is out there couldnt have sheltered you such. Simply put. Turning to something to feel better, only to see the hypocrisy from those who follow with it."
"Like how Artists make a creation, and when you go to show it off, people call it shit, or similar-" Neku wondered as Dennis stared blankly. "...Something like that I suppose."
"What made you question your religion? Aside from- the obvious." Neku asked, as Dennis snarked. "Aside from the child diddlers?"
"Thats the reason? Not the Burning Bush and how Paul heard god speak to him, and- yknow. The complete-" Neku explained, as Dennis stopped him. "Hypocrisy yes. They all say God wrote the Bible, yet dont consider. Factories manufacture the damn things. Plus, has anyone considered Paul literally murdered an entire village, went into the desert, possibly had something close to a heat stroke, only to come back and say hes been forgiven?"
"...Thats surprisingly realistic, even for you." Neku said in complete shock.
"Well, when you hear enough contradictions lying within the book itself, you begin to question. However, I do find comfort in some parts of the bible and some verses that I try my best to live by. Judge not lest yee be judged."
"And thats why you judge Toshiro?" Neku raised an eyebrow as Dennis shrugged. "He cast the first stone, so who am I to not show judgement for the brat?"
"That doesnt explain how angry you got during Rogers trial. Something seemed off about that outburst-" Neku was interrupted by Dennis suddenly changing the topic. "Moving on."
The two went on to discuss some other aspects of the holy book, before of course. Dennis looked off.
"The only reason Ive..stayed with this religion was for her." Dennis spoke somberly as Neku raised an eyebrow.
"Her?" Neku asked, as Dennis clarified. "Simple terms. Im a Widower. After having lost my Wife and Daughter."
"...Im sorry to hear that." Neku said, taken aback by the sudden turn of the conversation as Dennis held the crucifix close. "She was unlike most of these so called followers of god. She loved everyone, and was..considerate. Compassionate, full of life. Always wanting to help others smile. Similar to your little girlfriend."
"Why does everyone assume Harus my girlfriend?!" Neku asked, completely flustered by the comment.
"Its pretty obvious you two are starting to like one another." Dennis bluntly admitted. "Reminds me of myself with my late Wife. ...If I may, Id like to resume the topic to something else."
