When the morning arrives, Rain and Phayu are still wrapped in each other's arms—sleeping soundly.
That's until...
"Pookie! We're home!"
Phayu cracks an eye open, still clearly half asleep. He lifts his head and listens in order to make sure he wasn't just dreaming.
"Phayu, are you still sleeping? Pookie?"
Shit.
Phayu realizes it's well into the day and they didn't wake up early enough so he could take Rain home before his parents arrived. Don't get him wrong, he wants Rain to meet his parents but maybe not like this. Plus, his mom can be so embarrassing.
Phayu slips out of bed, throwing a sleeveless shirt on top of his joggers. Rain is still knocked out so he doesn't wake him and goes downstairs by himself.
"There you are!" His mother chirps and Phayu lightheartedly grumbles, "Mom, please stop yelling so early in the morning."
"But it's not early anymore, son." Phayu's father comes to his wife's defense. "Normally, you're already making coffee and have taken a jog at around this time. Are you feeling unwell?"
His mom gasps. Dramatic.
"Pookie, are you sick?"
"Mom, please." Phayu practically begs, hoping they leave before Rain wakes up so the boy doesn't have to watch him get treated like a baby and called 'pookie' at his age. "Stop with this 'pookie' already."
But then...
"Who's pookie?" Rain asks, coming out of the bedroom half-awake and rubbing his eyes. Phayu screws his eyes shut whilst his parents whip their heads towards the top of the stairs. Rain stiffens upon finding multiple eyes on him and all while he's decked in Phayu's clothes and coming out of his bedroom.
A very awkward silence follows.
But not even an hour later and they're gathered at the breakfast table with his parents are acting like they've just been reunited with a long lost son.
Phayu is sitting opposite Rain, his head perched on his knuckles as he watches them exchange stories about him.
"When Phayu was young, he wanted to be Ultraman." His mom laughs. Rain glances at Phayu with a playful glint in his eyes and says, "Really? I loved Ultraman growing up."
"So did Phayu and he was devastated when he found out Ultraman isn't real and he couldn't go apply to be one." The three of them laugh except Phayu who rolls his eyes in embarrassment.
"But even though he couldn't become a superhero, Phayu did grow up with a strong sense of justice." His father comes to his aid. "That's why he couldn't stand seeing people get bullied or just sit back and watch when someone abuses their authority."
At this, a proud look crosses Rain's eyes. This, he knows to be true. He didn't before but once they started dating, he learned that Phayu only got into fights when defending his friends and loved ones.
He truly is a real life superhero and Rain feels honored to be loved by such a person.
"By the way," Phayu's mom chimes in, scooting slightly closer to Rain. She giggles and Phayu can already tell she's about to embarrass him again. "Tell us how you two started dating." She prods the boy who instantly blushes.
"Mom." Phayu groans.
"Oh, c'mon. I'm just really curious."
"Honestly, I am too." His dad makes it worse, grinning sheepishly.
