Chase arrived at the safehouse. He met with everyone in the kitchen except for Rubble and Marshall. "Where's Rubble?" asked Zuma.
"He's in the med bay," Chase said. He paced around the room, trying to understand what happened.
"And Marshall?" Asked Everest, looking around. "He's not here."
"He's with Rubble."
"And Ryder?" Skye asked.
Chase looked at her and slowly shook his head. "The villains still have him held captive," he replied. Chase remembered they weren't the only ones there. Chase turned on his earpiece. Ryder had told them before confronting The Copycat so they wouldn't cause distractions. "Gabriel, Ainsley, come in. What's your status?"
After silence, Gabriel replied. "Soldiers are currently surrounding Ainsley and I. I guess this is where we part ways, team."
"Not yet," Chase stated. Using his superspeed, Chase ran to Gabriel and Ainsley. He first brought Gabriel back, then returned for Ainsley. Chase showed up with Ainsley in his arms.
"Thank you, Chase," Ainsley thanked as Chase put her down. Chase half-heartedly smiled and nodded. Skye frowned at the scene.
"Yeah, thank you, Chase," Gabriel said. He shook Chase's hand and cupped it with the other in a double-handshake form. "I am forever in your debt."
"Anytime, Gabriel," Chase said. Chase let go and began walking away.
"Where are you going?" Skye asked.
"I'm going to go check on the Rubble."
"What happened to Rubble?" Gabriel asked.
"I . . . uh," Rocky stuttered.
"Rubble got injured," Chase finished. "Marshall's with him now. I'll be back."
"Should we go with you?" Rocky asked.
"No," Chase said, giving Rocky a stern look. "Just go do your own thing. I'll, uh, let you know when you can see Rubble." Chase left without another word.
"Wait," Ainsley said. "Where's Ryder?"
"Ryder's still captured," Zuma replied. They all dispersed to their rooms. As the day got darker, the mood at the safehouse dropped. They all went to be alone, thinking about what The Copycat had revealed about them. All of their suppressed emotions came to the surface. They all needed some time to think.
Chase walked into the med bay. He saw Marshall, a doctor, and a nurse. As soon as Marshall saw Chase, Marshall walked up to him. "Hey," he said.
"Hey, Marshall," Chase said. "How is he?"
Marshall looked back at Rubble. "He's stable, but he is badly hurt. The debris broke his right thigh bone or his femur, and his knee got dislocated and swollen. We were able to relocate the kneecap and bring down the swelling, but his femur will take some time to mend. Rubble's resting right now." Marshall sighed heavily. "I wish I could do more."
"You did plenty, Marshall," Chase said. "Thank you."
Marshall nodded. "Imma go to my room real quick. I didn't get a chance to change out of my uniform."
"Go," Chase said. "I'll watch over Rubble for a bit." Marshall nodded once more before leaving the room. The doctor and nurse left shortly after, leaving Rubble and Chase alone.
Chase sat on a chair at the base of Rubble's bed. Rubble slept facing upward with his hands to his sides. Occasionally, he would mutter something inaudible or wince in pain before dozing off again.
