Afterthought

"Can you believe this is our last bonfire before the kids go back home?" The redhead inquired walking with the wood in between his laced fingers.

We were on our usual trail back to the area near the lake. Summer was ending soon and with its ending would be a new season, a new beginning. It was August now and we had two more weeks left of camp. It was almost surreal how much time had passed.

"Unfortunately, no I can't," Nichole stated behind me, smiling slightly. I had noticed recently they had been getting more close to each other. Sometimes they would just be talking when Kyle was free. Wonder if they'd stay in contact after camp was over?

We would all part ways again soon, and go about our lives. Hell we might not even see each other again till Christmas.

A chill ran down my spine from the wind, it was getting cool again. The hottest days were over now.

Anyways if they did continue, it would be good for Kyle to get out more. He's been so tethered to me this past year with everything going on. I feel like I chained him down like a dog sometimes...

Taking away from a life he wants instead.

"Hey what are you guys gonna do after camp anyway?" Nichole questioned me. I hadn't even gotten that far myself, what the hell were we gonna do?

My plan was to get back together with Wendy, we'd be happy together and that would be that. Then I'd get a job and continue my previous plans from college. But now... I don't want any of that.

So what should I do with my life?

And what should I do with Y/n when the summers over...? I do have her number after all.

I paused and looked down, "It's a secret," I lied grinning. "Oh really? I see you've got big plans then huh?" Nichole joked. I noticed her hair was done in a bun today with the little swirly things, she looked nice.

Kyle looked at me confused, he had no idea what my plans were either. I knew he was trying to already work himself around them, and I bet he was pissed he didn't know himself. But he wouldn't pry not right now at least, we had bigger things to worry about.

We walked down to the pit and threw wood into it. Then Kyle and I began to stack each piece till it was the shape of a hut. "That should be enough for later," I stated when we were finished and they smiled at each other.

We all began chatting and walking back to our cabins. I wanted to feel more of the chill in the air and took off my jacket showing my white shirt underneath. My hoodie was with Y/n still, so I haven't used it in a while.

I should ask for it back now that I'm thinking about it.

I took a breath when we reached the cabins and waved as Nichole went to hers. "So what now?" Kyle asked looking at me.

"Wanna go hang out?" I asked referring to our spot. He nodded and we began walking. Once we were out of ear shot he looked at me. "So what are your plans for the next year?" He asked as we walked through the brush and leaves.

I laughed, "Well I actually don't know."

"My original plans revolved around Wendy. But now I don't know..." I replied frustrated. He hummed looking at the hidden path we walked on, "Didn't really expect you to say you liked her after I found out it all," Kyle chuckled.

I shoved him slightly and he laughed.

"Seriously though I do wanna move on and do more. Maybe I can... I could actually follow my music career?" I said in thought and Kyle looked at me.

"You think so?" He asked and I nodded. "I wanna play again, but my base guitar you know?"

"I kinda miss performing back in high school even though the crowds were small. Maybe I'll actually get famous this time if they remember me?" I joked and he smiled. "Well it sounds like you've got that figured out at least," Kyle said and I smiled too.
