Chapter 16 + Epilogue

A/N: I am SOOOO sorry for the wait. I have struggled so hard to reach the ending of this and I rewrote it a good 3 times and ended up completely removing a battle scene cause I was having such a hard time working it out. FINALLY here it is, both the final chapter and the epilogue. I hope the conclusion was worth the wait!

Vivian King's POV

"A prank." The Headmaster huffs once more as he stares down Matilda, Aesop and I. "It would not be the first time students have broken into a Professor's office."

"You've got to be fuc-" Aesop starts, growling with frustration before Matilda cuts him off.

"Nigellus, Professor King has reason to believe someone was in the school following her moments before the break in. It is reasonable for us to report the incident to the Ministry and at least allow them to conduct a proper search of the grounds."

"Nonsense!" He snaps, standing from his chair in dramatic fashion. "My magic would make me aware if someone were to cross the school wards and I assure you that no outsiders have entered the school. The students may like Professor King but apparently even she can fall victim to their tormenting."

"But-"

"That's enough!" He glares at the Deputy Headmistress. "I don't want to hear another word." Waving his hand in a dismissive fashion I fight the urge to hex the man as I turn and have to physically pull both Matilda and Aesop towards the door - both looking as though they are about to explode with rage.

"Come on." I whisper under my breath as both of them reluctantly follow. By the time we finally reach the bottom of the steps I'm able to release them. "I'm going to report the incident regardless of what he says."

"Allow me to be the one who contacts them to report." Matilda looks at me with a serious expression that appears near threatening. "Should Nigellus decide to act out then it will be I who takes the brunt of the backlash."

"I do not wish for yo-"

"It is decided, Vivian." She declares, quickly getting me to shut my mouth. "I will contact the Ministry and have them come to sweep your office and collect your statement."

"Thank you." My voice goes soft as I see just how passionate she is about improving the school and ensuring the grounds are safe.

It only takes an hour before Auror Kane knocks on my classroom door with the same smile he gave me when Aesop and I last went to the Ministry months ago. "Afternoon, Professor."

"Thank you so much for coming!" I sigh in relief, glad to see someone who both my brother and Aesop trust is handling this.

"The Deputy Headmistress gave me an overview of what happened but I'll need to confirm a few things with you and perform some detection spells on the room."

"Of course!" I walk closer before gesturing for him to come further into the room. "I've locked the office completely since it happened so nothing's been touched since I first found it."

"You were with Aesop when you arrived?"

"Yes."

"Did he perform any of the standard charms to detect the intruder?"

"No, he didn't. He said anything he did might be considered inference in the case so he just helped me set up stronger wards on the door."

"Good." He scribbles in his notepad briefly giving a nod in approval. "Is there anything you think someone might be looking to break in and take?"
