chapter thirteen

The restaurant within the hotel was abuzz with activity, but our table was a secluded corner, far from the prying eyes of other guests. We had just finished a meal that none of us really tasted, the food merely an excuse to sit together and discuss what had been weighing on our minds.

The atmosphere had shifted after Solomon’s appearance at the beach earlier; his interest in me was undeniable, and it had added a layer of tension that Jay and I hadn’t expected.

But now, as we gathered around the table, the focus was back on the reason we were all here: Jaehyuk.

I sat beside Jay, his hand resting protectively on my knee beneath the table. His touch was grounding, a reminder that despite everything, we were in this together.

Across from us, Sunhee and Heeseung exchanged quiet words, their faces serious. Minji was animated as always, but even she couldn’t completely mask the concern in her eyes.

Addison—or Addy, as we all called her—arrived at our table with her usual confident stride. She was Jay’s cousin from Seattle, a force of nature with a personality that could fill a room.

I kindly admired her sharp wit and no-nonsense attitude, but tonight, I was grateful for it.

As she took her seat, Addy leaned back in her chair, her eyes scanning the group. “So, I hear you all have been dealing with some serious drama,” she said, a hint of a smile playing on her lips.

Minji, never one to miss a beat, nodded vigorously. “You could say that. The groom's been a pain in the ass, and we’re ready to take him down.”

Addy chuckled, but there was an edge to her laughter. “Well, you’re in luck. I’ve got some info that might just give you the upper hand.”

I exchanged a glance with Jay, who gave me a reassuring nod.

“What do you know, Addy?” he asked, his voice calm but with an undertone of urgency.

Addy’s expression turned serious as she leaned forward. “Solomon’s been playing both sides, but he’s not as slick as he thinks. I overheard him talking to Jaehyuk earlier today. They’re planning something big—something that’s going to involve your dad, Jay. Jaehyuk’s setting it up to make it look like your dad’s in on this shady business deal, but it’s all a setup. He’s planning to crash your dad’s reputation and take over the company.”

I felt a chill run down my spine. The thought of Jaehyuk using Jay’s father, a man who had always been supportive and kind, filled me with anger.

This wasn’t just a personal vendetta anymore; it was an attack on Jay’s family.

Jay’s grip on my knee tightened, and I could see the storm brewing in his eyes.

“That bastard,” he muttered under his breath.

Addy nodded, her expression grim. “There’s more. Chowon’s involved too. She’s helping Jaehyuk with the plan, though I’m not sure if she’s fully aware of what she’s gotten herself into.”

The group fell silent, processing the weight of Addy’s words.

It was Heeseung who spoke first. “So, what’s the plan? We can’t just let this happen.”

Jake nodded in agreement. “We need to stop him, but we need to be smart about it. If we can get proof of what he’s planning, we can expose him before it’s too late.”

Ni-ki, who had been quietly listening, leaned back in his chair with a thoughtful expression. “Maybe we don’t need to confront him directly. We could gather evidence at the event he’s planning—something concrete that we can use to bring him down.”
