⚊ chapter twenty one
As the first light of morning filtered through the hospital room window, I slowly woke up, my head still heavy from the events of the previous day. The room was quiet, except for the soft beeping of the heart monitor and the rustling of the curtain as it fluttered in the gentle breeze.
I turned my head, seeing Jay sitting by the window, looking out with a thoughtful expression.
He turned when he noticed me stirring, a mixture of relief and exhaustion on his face. “Hey, Eunjoo. How are you feeling?”
“Groggy,” I admitted, my voice raspy. “What time is it?”
“It’s early,” Jay replied, glancing at the clock on the wall. “Everyone else is still at the hotel, getting some rest. I thought we’d have some quiet time before things get hectic again.”
I nodded, taking a deep breath. My gaze fell on the TV mounted in the corner of the room. It was turned on to a news channel, and the headline caught my attention immediately: “Disastrous Wedding in Hawaii Exposes High-Profile Scandal”.
My heart sank as I watched the footage play.
The screen showed images of Jaehyuk, looking disheveled and furious as he was escorted away by security. The anchor’s voice was solemn as she reported on the events, detailing how the wedding had unraveled in front of hundreds of guests.
The anchor’s voice cut through the quiet hospital room, the TV providing a stark contrast to the calm atmosphere. Her tone was grave as she spoke.
“Good morning. We’re continuing our coverage of the shocking events that unfolded at the highly publicized wedding in Hawaii. What was meant to be a celebration of union has turned into a scandalous affair.”
The screen showed footage from the wedding, with scenes of guests in shock, the elegant venue now tainted by chaos. The camera panned over the once-beautiful setting, now marred by the confrontation and the fallout.
“The ceremony, which was attended by hundreds, was abruptly interrupted when damning evidence of groom Jaehyuk’s infidelities and illegal activities was revealed. The footage showed Parl Jaehyuk engaging in multiple affairs while still engaged to the bride, Kim Chowon, and attempting to sabotage the Park family’s business.”
Images flashed of Jaehyuk’s angry outburst, the confrontation between him and Jay’s father, and the distressing aftermath. The screen briefly showed Chowon, heartbroken and in tears, her wedding dress stained by the events of the day.
The anchor continued, “The shocking revelations have sent shockwaves through the community, with many now questioning the integrity of the high-profile figures involved. The fallout from this disaster will likely have lasting repercussions for everyone connected.”
As the anchor’s report concluded, the screen returned to a somber image of the ruined wedding venue. I sat in silence, absorbing the gravity of the situation while Jay’s hand remained firmly in mine.
I glanced at Jay, who had sat down beside me, his expression grim. “Is this what happened while I was out?”
“Yeah,” Jay said, his voice heavy with the weight of the situation. “The news picked up everything. It’s all over the media now. They’ve covered Jaehyuk’s crimes—his schemes to sabotage my family’s company and his affairs while still engaged to Chowon.”
I felt a pang of sorrow for her, knowing how much she had been hurt.
“It’s so surreal,” I said, my voice trembling. “I can’t believe how everything turned out.”
