⚊ chapter twenty seven
As I opened the door to my penthouse, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and exasperation. The apartment was more than spacious enough to accommodate everyone comfortably, with its expansive living area offering a breathtaking view of Seoul's skyline.
It had been a sanctuary for me, a place where I found solace after difficult times, including the days Heeseung would come here, trying to escape his troubles with Sunhee.
But today, I hoped to use this space for a different purpose.
The gang started to trickle in, their faces lit with curiosity and anticipation. However, as soon as the first few arrived, it was clear that chaos was about to ensue.
Minji and Ni-ki immediately found themselves in a heated dispute over the plush bean bag that faced the large mirror window. Their voices were raised, and it was clear they were both determined to claim the prime spot.
“I saw it first!” Minji shouted, her tone defiant.
“No way! I’m sitting here,” Ni-ki retorted, shoving Minji lightly, which only escalated the situation.
Their bickering was loud enough to drown out any hope of calm.
Meanwhile, Jake and Sunghoon had instinctively gravitated toward the kitchen, their eyes lighting up at the sight of snacks.
“Whoa, Jay, do you have any chips? Maybe some salsa too?” Jake asked, already rifling through the cabinets.
Sunghoon was not far behind, eagerly looking for anything that could be munched on. “I’m starving! Jay, do you have any instant ramen?”
Heeseung, who had been trailing behind them, let out a cheer of delight as he spotted the ramen and spam in the pantry.
“Free ramen and spam! You’re the best, Jay!” His enthusiasm was infectious, but it added to the overall din.
Sunoo walked in next, holding a tupperware of biscuits and cupcakes.
He approached me with a pout, clearly hoping for my attention. “Jay, I brought some of our latest creations for you to try. We’re launching our online bakeshop soon. What do you think?”
Kiara and Sunhee were right behind him, both equally eager to showcase their baked goods.
“You have to try these cupcakes, Jay,” Kiara urged, practically shoving them into my face. “They’re amazing!”
Sunhee, who looked almost teary, added, “We’ve been working so hard on them. Please, Jay, let us know what you think.”
Jungwon, amidst all this chaos, seemed to be the only one with any semblance of composure.
“Jay hyung, what’s the surprise you wanted to share with us?” he asked, looking at me with curiosity.
I wanted to shout out the surprise and reveal it, but the pandemonium around me was making it impossible to think straight.
Minji and Ni-ki were still locked in their bean bag battle.
Minji clung to one side, her face flushed with determination. “I’m telling you, I saw this bean bag first. It’s mine!”
Ni-ki, equally stubborn, was trying to yank it away from her. “No way! I called dibs the moment we walked in. You can’t just take it!”
Their argument was becoming louder by the second, and I was losing hope of ever restoring peace.
Meanwhile, Sunghoon and Jake had turned the kitchen into their personal snack haven.
Jake had a bag of chips in one hand and was rummaging through the pantry. “Jay, do you have any salsa? Chips are no good without it.”
