chapter fifteen

I could feel their eyes on me. Every time I moved, every time I shifted in my seat, someone in the group would glance my way. It was subtle, but it was there—the concern, the unspoken worry that hung in the air.

They didn’t know what was going on with me, but they sensed something was off. And while it made me feel cared for, it also made me feel more on edge.

The last thing I wanted was for them to worry about me when we had bigger things to focus on—like taking down Jaehyuk.

We were all gathered in one of the hotel’s private lounges, a sleek room with a view of the ocean that should have been calming, but only served to remind me of the storm brewing just beneath the surface.

Jay was standing at the head of the table, his expression serious as he laid out the details of our plan. The boys—Heeseung, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon, and Ni-ki—were listening intently, each of them with a role to play.

The girls—Minji, Sunhee, Kiara, Isa, and Yoon—were equally focused, their determination clear.

I tried to push my own worries aside, to concentrate on the plan, but it was hard when every so often one of them would glance at me with that same look.

They didn’t know yet, but I could tell they were on the brink of asking.

“We’ve got one shot at this,” Jay was saying, his voice firm. He had taken charge, his natural leadership shining through. “Jaehyuk’s wedding is the perfect opportunity to expose him. He’ll be in front of everyone—Chowon, his business partners, even his own family, my own family and a company that was supposed to be for me, not his. If we can pull this off, it’ll be the end of him.”

“How do we get in without raising suspicion?” Heeseung asked, leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed.

“Park Jiwon’s got a contact who can get us in as part of the service staff,” Jay explained. “Waiters, bartenders, that kind of thing. We’ll be able to move around the venue without drawing too much attention.”

“Isn’t that risky?” Sunhee chimed in, her brow furrowed. “What if someone recognizes us?”

“It’s a risk,” Jay admitted, “but it’s our best shot. We’ll be splitting up, so the chances of being recognized by the same person are lower. And besides, most of the guests will be too focused on the wedding to notice a few extra faces.”

“So, what’s the plan?” Sunoo asked, leaning forward with interest.

Jay pulled out a rough sketch of the venue, laying it on the table for everyone to see. “We’ll each have a role to play. I’ll be coordinating everything from the service corridor. I’ll have eyes on the main hall and be in constant contact with everyone through earpieces. Minji and Sunhee, you’ll be mingling with the guests as servers. Your job is to keep an eye on Jaehyuk and Chowon, make sure they don’t slip away.”

Minji nodded, her usual confident smile replaced by a determined expression. “Got it. We’ll keep them in sight.”

“Jake, you and Kiara will be stationed near the main entrance,” Jay continued. “Your job is to intercept anyone who might try to leave in a hurry. If things go south, we need to make sure Jaehyuk doesn’t get away.”

Jake exchanged a glance with Kiara, both of them nodding in agreement. “We’ll handle it,” Jake said.

“Sunghoon, Heeseung, and Ni-ki, you’ll be on crowd control,” Jay went on. “Make sure no one gets in the way when we make our move. Keep the guests calm, but don’t be afraid to step in if things get out of hand.”
