⚊ epilogue
The year had flown by, and with it came the changes that marked a new chapter in Eunjoo's and my life. Our wedding had been a joyous celebration, filled with laughter, tears, and promises of a bright future.
Now, as the seasons changed once more, we found ourselves in a hospital room, surrounded by a different kind of anticipation.
The room was bathed in the soft glow of morning light. Eunjoo lay in the hospital bed, her hand tightly gripping mine. I sat beside her, my heart racing with a mixture of excitement and nerves.
Today was the day we would meet our son, the little one we had dreamed about, the one who would carry a piece of both of us into the future.
I watched as Eunjoo breathed deeply, her face a picture of calm determination. She had always been strong, but seeing her like this, preparing to bring our child into the world, filled me with an overwhelming sense of admiration and love.
I could barely keep myself together, my thoughts spinning with a thousand hopes and dreams for the life we were about to begin as a family.
The hours passed in a blur of whispered encouragement, soft reassurances, and shared smiles. And then, finally, the moment arrived.
The sound of our baby’s first cry filled the room, a sound that will forever be etched into my memory. The doctor carefully placed the tiny bundle in Eunjoo’s arms, and I felt my breath catch in my throat.
“He’s perfect,” Eunjoo whispered, tears spilling from her eyes as she gazed down at our son.
I leaned in closer, my eyes wide with wonder as I looked at the baby boy cradled in Eunjoo’s arms.
“Eunjae,” I murmured, testing the name on my lips, feeling its weight and significance. It was a name that blended our own, a symbol of the love that had brought us together and would carry us forward.
Eunjoo nodded, her smile trembling with emotion. “Eunjae,” she agreed softly. “Our little Eunjae.”
Gently, I took Eunjae into my arms, holding him for the first time.
The tiny face that peered up at me was so much like my own that it took my breath away. The dark eyes, the shape of the nose, even the small tuft of hair—they were all reflections of me. Yet, in the delicate features, I could also see Eunjoo, the woman I loved more than anything.
This little life, so new and fragile, was the perfect blend of us both.
“He looks just like you,” Eunjoo said, her voice filled with awe. “But I can see a bit of me in there too.”
I nodded, unable to find the words to express the flood of emotions I was experiencing. Instead, I pressed a gentle kiss to Eunjae’s forehead, silently vowing to be the best father I could be, to love and protect this child with everything I had.
A soft knock on the door pulled us from our reverie. My heart swelled as I saw Eunjoo’s parents and her brother, Eunwoo, step into the room. Their faces lit up with joy as they caught sight of our newborn son.
“Eunjae,” Eunwoo breathed, coming to stand beside us. He leaned down to look at the baby, his eyes misting over with tears. “He’s beautiful, Eunjoo. Just like his parents.”
Eunjoo smiled at her brother, feeling the warmth of his love and support. “Do you want to hold him?”
Eunwoo hesitated for a moment, then nodded, carefully taking the tiny bundle into his arms.
As he looked down at his nephew, I could see the emotions playing across his face. His mind was clearly flooded with memories of their childhood, of the bond he and Eunjoo shared.
